NOTE: “Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise are not versions that will be eligible for a free upgrade”.

Until you get used to using Windows 10 you will need to become more conversant
with the “setting” this can be found using the bottom left hand icon.

The setting icon controls almost everything including, wifi, printer, etc, and more importantly
    access permissions.

Well, I must say I'm not surprised. What a bunch of jerks... I thought this upgrade was meant to be free for Windows 7 and 8 users... I felt so hopeful when i read the title of this thread :( I don't like Windows 8.1 at all, I don't even know how to start the laptop on safe mode... I tried to do the same I did with my Windows 7 laptop... didn't work. Guess I'll be stuck with this one for a while.

    Windows 7 safe mode TOSHIBA
    Press the power button.
    tap the F8 key.

too rapidly, you will get an error or hear beeping.

Wait for the "Advanced Boot Options" screen to be displayed.

on the "Advanced Boot Options" screen, use the up and down arrow keys to select "Safe Mode."

    Press ENTER.

    Windows 8 SAFE MODE TOSHIBA

Thanks, I already knew how to do it on win 7, but the win 8 was a real secret to me, lol. Thanks a lot! It doesn't look so hard, it definitely requires more steps than win 7, but it's ok, it's doable :) I still want windows 7 installed on this laptop ;)

Thank you for posting this. Should I stick to Windows 7 or is Windows 10 better?

Windows 7 like all Microsoft operating systems will at some time lose support from Microsoft.

Windows 12 will become a update, and be listed in your update listings when it's fully released.

This will apply to genuine windows versions

That is something only you can decide on, but I am currently dual booting my laptop between Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Technical Release and I am torn between the two. I do really like the interface of the Technical Release I am currently using, however having just checked what the latest release is, I am now out of date again, so I am going to go off and download and install the new version because the build numbers have changed quite a bit.

But it is looking good so far.

I got a notice on my Windows 7 system today about the free upgrade to Windows 10 - check in your notification area to see if you have the icon too :). You don't need to give your e-mail address when it asks you, it's possible to skip the e-mail validation step and it works just fine.

Thanks for this, I didn't know. My university offers us a free copy of Windows 7 and I'm not sure if that's eligible, but I'll give it a shot. It's a shame that Microsoft will, indeed, stop supporting Win7 after a while, but I suppose that's inevitable.
