To save some of us alot of headaches, I am going to start a thread on 1.8" compatibility.

I have finally got my Flip Cables in, and the ZIF Hard drive I have does not work. Can you please post in the following format:

    Manufacture - Model Number - Flip/Standard Cable

    WORKING
    MK300GAL
    and therefore probably
    MK600GAL
    HTC426020G5CE00 - Flip Cable
Hitachi - C4K60 - Flip Cable (Please Note: If you try with the standard cable you will burn up your Hard Drive, I managed to Burn two (2) up before I figured this out.

    NOT WORKING

Did you try using something like UBCD to format it?
Mine wasn't recognised by BIOS, but was by some utilities on UBCD, but none would format properly, and then it started clicking, so it was definitely broken..

I hadnt tried UBCD, but I just did and the drive is not seen, by any of the utilities. The drive spins up just fine, and even clicks when cut power. So its getting proper signal, its just not compatible with the controller. And since Acer doesnt allow us to manually set parameters, we are out of luck on this drive. :-/

Are you certain these are the exact model numbers? I know of the MK3008GAL, but not MK300GAL. Is it a new product?

Not quite sure : MK3006GAL, MK3008GAL and MK3009GAL are all different models, for instance...

I think he ust means the MK300*GAL and MK600*GAL versions should work fine.

Although, this shouldn't be a place of guessing, the whole point is to report drives that do work.

I just purchase a C4k60 from ebay that was a working pull from a Zune MP3 player. Can I use the existing cable in the One and just flip it on the board side zif socket. Is there enough of the cord to fold so that everything fits neatly into the case?

I did a little searching for a "flip cable" but had no luck. Do you have a source and part number for the right cord?

    thanks in advance.

Thanks! The cable you sent me did the trick. I've upgraded my AAO with a Hitachi 30GB 1.8" drive and it is outstanding. It is a dream compared to the SSD drive. I recommend this mod to anyone thinking of replacing the SSD. It cost me $36 total and took about an hour to install not counting the OS. This difference is night and day. No hangs at all with this setup.

I can confirm that a TOSHIBA HDD 120GB 4200RPM 1.8# ATA-LIF MK1214GAH is working with no problems. The default cable from the SSD doesnt fit without trimming it down a bit, otherwise a really nice disk. You also have to mod the chassi a little to make it fit.
