With my "GAL" drive (low profile, 5mm), I only had to remove the small "L"-shaped tab in the middle (cf. tnkgrl's video), and taped the drive to the mobo with double-sided padded tape. Works fine.

    Any Advice ???
Any one know if this drive will work ?
I got my hands on this today.
And my acer ssd version will come in tomorrow.

I seen tnkgirl's tutorial. But my drive measures 7.5mm instead 5mm.
In her tutorial it says break of the L shape peice she left the Middle tap intact
any idea what has to be modded(shaved off) to accomudate this drive and if this drive will even work ?

    Thanks Pearl

I think the middle tap will have to be removed in order to accomodate this 7.5" drive. Other than that, you should be fine.

Just a clarification on what the model numbers for the Toshiba drives mean, also to report one that doesn't work. Where rory marked the " * " DOES matter. Any model with " * " as 6 or 4 will not work. For example, I purchased an MK2006GAL drive and it has an ATA connector, not ZIF. Any model with an 8 or higher in the place if the " * " will work, such as MK6008 or MK8009.

So... Toshiba MK2006GAL confirmed to not work.

After making the mistake of buying an ATA drive, I've ordered a Samsung HS06THB (the same one that tnkgrl used in her video). It should work and I'll report back once i have that installed.

Add to first post list maybe.

    Toshiba 100GB MK1011GAH
100% Working. running xp on it atm.
    It's not .5mm like tnkgrl's rather .7mm

So grinding down the middle knob and the one above it is required.
Also the ] and the lower L brackets need to be broken off
or grinded down to fit the HD completely flush.
If not done so the motherboard will flex on complete assembly.
The HD does have a metal casing around it,
that might be removeable but i didn't since i like the extra protection.

Help, I tried to install a toshiba, but factory acer cable too thick, now if I sand it down, how do I orient the cable when done. Motherboard face up, hard drive connector up or down? I tried Hitachi, cable fits, but nothing happens, I guess I need a flip cable, TK, got any more? I made youtube video, but made wrong comment, look me up adonian on youtube to see my vid which I will be correcting immediatly.

What size and pitch ZIF connector is used for the hard drive? I'm looking to add one to my AOA150, just for fun.
    Sorry if it's mostly off-topic. :)

Samsungs Use the same zif thickness i believe same size etc etc etc

Toshiba there are some HD that use the same size everything except it half as thick at the insertion point.

So use a filer sand paper Nail sander and sand it thiner by 50? and it fits right in.

MK8009GAH confirmed to work, and it's fast enough..
Before I tried the MK8010GAH, but I found it has extended ATA command set that can only read/write 2 consecutive sectors at once, and it won't work witha standard zif interface and controller, and I had to replace it.
So be *really* careful when purchasing your 1.8 drive!!!

    Hi everyone,

I'am looking for a MK6008GAH 60Gb 1.8" Hard Drive ZIF and I notice this drive is much cheaper when suited for Apple iPod MP3.

    I spoted some here for 49 € : http://cgi.befr.ebay.be/Apple-iPod-MP3- ... m153.l1262

Most time, the same drive costs much more when it's an OEM version. This ebay seller also have OEM ones for laptops but price can top at 120 € for a MK6008GAH. I'am very carefull because I already buy for a few euros a Lacie little drive with a Samsung Spinpoint N1. But when I get the drive out and place it in the AA1, BIOS tells drive is lock !!!

So, I don't want to buy an other none working drive !

PS : I order a zif to IDE converter and plan to use HDD unlock to get the Samsung drive unlock.

Thanks ! I also have the zif to USB but it did not work with HDD Unlock.

Before ordering an other 1.8", I will wait my converter and try to free my HS020GB with http://www.hddunlock.com/
Does some one already try this software ?

If it won't work, I will order a MK6008GAH 60Gb 1.8" ZIF. The seller tells me it's better to chose an non iPod drive.

Hi, has anyone tried using a Toshiba MK2008GAL 20 GB? I know it is ZIF, but just wondering if theres any other reason that might make it unsuitable, like size or speed?

Also, kind of off-topic, does any one know if the Intel 8gb SSD from the One will work in an Ipod??

    Thanks,
    Dafox

I have an MK3008GAL in mine (30GB). Same model, only 30GB instead of 20GB, so I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Don't know what model of iPod you plan to use it with, but it won't fit in a 1st-gen nano, for instance.
