Just put a blob of solder across R364 and the 5v will be on the sata connector.

    Bul

As ipearl said did you short the R364 it will give you power to the hard disk.
I had the same problem it kept going into the bios when there was no hard disk.

Hi. In my case I've got tiny component in-between soldering pads. According to multimeter it's about 25 Ohms.

    HI Melhiore

You have to take that component out to get a proper reading, as it could be in paralle with something that could read 25 Ohms. I do know that one side of it is another component that is connected to ground.

All I am saying that the reading mite not be ccorret. I work with electronics alot. The only way you can be sure it is not a 0 ohms link is to take a voltage reading with the hard disk connected and take a reading from both side of it to ground ie. the black probe to ground and use the red prob to take a reading from both sides if the voltage reading is the same on both sides it should read 0 Ohms and the value you have above could be the multimeter leads.

Fully agree. But shorting those to pads is doing the same job. In opinion of couple of people it works fine then why not to give it a chance...

that is means i have to short to R364?? just my oppinion, the SATA connectors separate in 2 different pins (the 7 pins is for the data and the 15 pins are for the voltage) is that true? so u don't need to short any others 5V? cause there is enough for SATA HDD to do the job..correct me if i'm wrong,,
is there someone here will show us the picture of the SATA connector?
what BIOS version did you us?
is it true if the SATA has enough power, the BIOS will detect automatically detect the SATA HDD no matter what is your BIOS version??
    thanks for support...really appreciate that..

    hi bul,

do you see were r364 is there is 2 contcacts there you need to short them togeather. If you are looking at the yellow wire in my pic is a ground I had to do that because I took my sata connector from some thing else and some of my pins broken off. take a look at my pic below. where i put the red box there is 2 contacts that is the 2 you short. I am sorry that I did not take a pic before I shorted them. I hope to open it later and try to get a better pic of the R364 for you.

i'm buying a new SATA caddy and break'em up to got the connector, so it's a brand new connector, i think i don't have to soldered a ground cable, is that true?

    Hi, Bul

you will not have to solder the ground, if you take the sata connector out with care because the pins are very fine. When you are going to buy the sata caddy buy the one for a 2.5" drive.

Take a look at this one it is very close match to mine that I got the sata connector from http://cgi.ebay.ie/2-5-SATA-to-USB-2-0- ... dZViewItem

    Hi mrdee

Did you do any mods? it sounds to me that you have a short. I had that problem when I done a usb mod in the place for 3g modem. If i was you I would check all my mods to see if any of them have a short, if not take it apart and try power it up out of the case with an extrenal monitor pluged in to see if it stays power up if it does the put it back togeather testing it at diffrent stages when doing it then hope fuly you will have you acer one back togeather working.

are there shots from the SATA connector of an A0A150? I suspect there are quite some components missing on the AOA110 whereas the mainboard design is identical.

All you need is SATA connector. Go trough this topic and you will see there is nothing else missing...

the observation that it works just by installing a connector and shortening a resistor doesn't implicate that all the components for stable operation are there - it's only an indication that the SATA port works fine on the short run.

    Hi to all,

I have beening using my one since i done this mod on 14th september on a daily basies and it has even run over night downloading software. I have had no problems yet. The one has been used for recording music except for a few time it was left on to download over night. The only thing that is when the screen is dimed to below half way on battery the screen flickers and the battery is about half an hour shorter. I would use it alot on the mains

Something is majorly wrong with the Fat 120GB models.
They all seem to die Alot, Failed Fans or Extreme loud fans and Flicker issues.
I saw Microcenter sell 2 versions the SSD and the HDD. The SSD was fine on display jsut like the one i use at home.
The HDD version had a LOUD Fan, abnoxious, The screen Flickered like you all say and talking to sale they had the Display HDD version die 3 times aka not turn on since they carry the Acer.

why do you want to mess around with your AAO?

do you really need a HD? wouldn't a 32 GB SD card suffice?

and besides that? as an alternative solution you might buy one of those extrenal drives and connect through USB
    !!!!

    cheers

32gb sd is slooow. Also costs almost the same as a 120gb HDD. Having to carry an external around is annoying, just one more thing to lose.

Why do you think people do renovations to their houses? Wouldn't a shack suffice? I mean, you can still sleep in it and it keeps you dry... It's called improving an existing thing that will better suit your needs. Also fun too.
