    hi i am using aspire one 8gb model and i upgrade it to 160gb 2.5 hdd also i hav connected the 8gb both of them r working fine i am using xp prof sp3 wht i did is some component missing in the SATA power section: C426, C428, C431, C438, C441 and R364 i use old motherboards to find these components to power the 5v...............3v and the data connection was already connected on our board i will on next post tell u the rating of C426, C428, C431, C438, C441 capacitors and th resistance used R364 is 8 ohams ok that will through the 5v. connector of sata i took from the 2.5 casing which is sold out in the market they r two types we have to use the one which is in 2 lines because our board is using that one. it is simple u don't have to do it ure self what i did is open the board study it and take the board to the laptop repair guy told him to sold it he did it in 15min with a heat solding and i upgrade the bios thats it in 1 hour i did it all in last i left the 8gb connected to the same position.
    so do this buy empty case of 2.5 hdd then open the board take the 2.5 hdd 160gb go to the any laptop repair shop i will send u the capacitor rating tell him to do it thats it, three of them r 0.1 micro farad one of them is 10 micro farad and last one is 150 micro farad 8 ohams of one resistor i will send u the pic where to connect how the power is completed 5v we need these capasitor to control the 5v flow in good condition if u take it direct it will work but in some cases it will give filkring in screen that is waht happing with some guys on battry runing case.
    take care

    Hi!

    @assad741:
    Hey, thanks for information!, but cuold you please tell us the values of the capacitors and the resistance?
    I'm just for doing this mod and I don't want to have the screen filkring.
    Ohh, and could you please post a foto of these components that we have to sold?

    I don't have money to buy a sata box or to order a sata conector, so I'm going to this mod whit a simple sata wire. I'm going to cut the wire and then I'm going to sold their mini wires to the motherboard.

    As soon I get the capacitors and the resistance values, I'm going to do a tutorial whit fotos, I promise.

    Thanks! and see you! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

    These are the rating I promise to send u guys sorry for delay I was having flu & fever problem any how u can see in the picture that C441, C431 & C438 are having rating of 0.1µ/10V_4 and C428 IS OF 10µ/10v_8 FOR C426 is 150µ/6.3V_7343 please check that +3V is going direct also but need Capacitor C441 node 18,20,21,22 is 12V our this Blue Aspire One with SDD 8Gb does not have 12V on its motherboard ok, please these capacitors are very small and can only be sold by heating gun not with solding iron it will damage the board, after your done with it upgrade the bios to 0.3304V and connect the SDD 8GB also leave it on the small place in diagonal position up on the SATA HDD I am using 160GB.

    About the BlueTooth u have seen that it can be fixed at the place under the Wifi (LAN) module I tell u do this use the extendable cable for USB connect one side as it is shown in the Bluetooth fixing and leave the extendable connector under the place for fixing 3G module it is empty so u can use any device which is using USB it can be Bluetooth or USB Stick etc. this is what I have done now I will tell u later that how to fix a FM Transmitter which is my next project because I use this Aspire One only in my car for sound I can transmit the FM and get it on my Jeep Stereo to listen it or in my house sound system by tuning on FM.

    Are those resistors/capacitors required? will it work just with the stand? possible to make it out of the standard cable?

    forgot to mention, I have Aspire One Blue one, latest bios 3309, 8GB SSD edition(of course)

    reason for this mod is because of the 1.8 HDD I purchased died on me....... :x

    this guy here didn't say anything about those missing resistor/capacitors, http://www.flickr.com/photos/28231405@N04/ it seems to be working for him?

    yes, but it seems to me that you ZIF cable length is going to be a problem.

    also look at it, it is a pin out, you need the opposite, the female one (don't really know which is which but the opposite of that ATA)

    On the comments at Morrislee's guide there is someone who wants to drill the holes and just now I found out why. I own 2 AAO 110 and they differ. I bought the first at the time the AAO emerged and the second last week. I´ve been making the 2,5SATA HD mod on both and the first one went without a hitch BUT the second was not that easy. It seems the motherboards differ in a way no easy to spot. Some of the SATA connector holes are not drilled through on the later model. This makes connecting the pins quite difficult. None of the ground pins on the data connector are drilled through so I connected only the four data and it seems to work. On the power side +5V pin 7 is drilled through and ground pin 6, none of the others. On the old AAO all pins were drilled through. I found this out using the solder sucker to remove solder and as I didn´t get through i suspected someting. If you are using some type ocf Molex to connect the drive you will therefore have to check wich pins you can use. I went for Morrislee´s approach and made my own using standard cables.

    just for your info, for this mod, I didn't touch the drill, I only soldered on to the motherboard.

    So did I, on the first AAO, all pins on data an two pins on power. On the second however I had to cut away the pins not drilled in the board to make the connectors fit. I´m just adding the info to make sure some other folks attending this mod doesn´t heat up the board to much trying to remove solder that aren´t there and in so risking to desolder nearby components. I would never drill either. Once I found out that I couldn´t use all the holes it was quite easy (though I am experienced when it comes to soldering).

    Now I´ve done some preliminary speedtests. Unfortuantely the webhosting service of my ISP is down at the moment so I will post the pic from Atto Benchmark later but I can tell you some numbers (using defalt values). The numbers are almost identical for both read and write and therefore I will only post one result per data length:

    0,5 -> 3,2Mb/s

    1,0-> 6,2Mb/s

    4,0 -> 20Mb/s

    16,0-> 50Mb/s

    128.0 and above -> 68Mb/s

    Xp with service pack 3 boots in 12 seconds.

    The same with mine. I spent quite some time to figure out that those pin holes are not drilled through. At that time, so much I wished I had a solder sucker. :mrgreen:

    And later I had to give up the plan to solder all 22 pinouts, instead, only 6 were soldered, pin 2,3,5,6 of data and pin 5,7 of the power. I also tried pin 6 of power but it seems not drilled through either, so I took 5.

    Mine didnt have all the holes drilled through either. I ended up using a pin+small hammer to make some tiny holes. The PCB drills are obviously the best choice, but my solution is a hell of a lot cheaper.

    hi! sorry for not reading the entire thread yet (and sorry for my english ;) ). i've a A110L, i was thinking to add the touchscreen kit, and a 4200rpm zif 1.8 drive, i have the samsung ssd, quicker than intel, but it's not an hard disk. so im asking if troubles for soldering the sata are justified by the speed of a 5400rpm drive. i don't know what version of mobo i have, bought in italy few weeks ago.. but i read it needs a dozen solders.. so.. if the speed is few more than zif 4200drive i'd prefer this one.. or a solid zif/cf drive, but hd is cheaper.. so tell me please, what i should do?

    in case of buying a zif drive, what models should i consider? something that fits easily in the case...etc.etc.

    thank you!
