No, they don't. Different logic on the motheboards. Do not load a non-AAO bios onto the AAO, unless you really want to brick the AAO.

I dont think I have ever read a comment that was more wrong.
They do NOT use the same hardware. Just because the CPU is the same doesnt mean the hardware is the same.
    The mobos are VERY different.
Flash it with that bios only if you want a very expensive door stop.

I wonder if you could take a 2g stick of ram and disconnect some of the chips on it to become 1.5g ram. Seems this would be less of a risk than messing with the bios or the motherboard ram. Might even be tested on some other laptop first that you don't have to take apart.

Nope. You'd need to change the support logic on the SO-DIMM modules as well, otherwise it would just report that the SO-DIMM module was bad, during the boot.

The mobo datasheet has details about the on-board connections of the RAM chips. Maybe it would be possible to trick the Chipset to think there is no RAM present.
    http://vassyl.net/work/acerone/aspire0nemb.pdf
The chipset datasheet contains data, too.

I haven't searched for info yet, but it may be possible to change detection of hardware by addressing the chipset through hardware. Using wpcredit might theoretically work, but it's too late to change registers after BIOS, so a hardware mod would be the only way I suppose.

Btw. with wpcredit it is possible to detect the changes gmabooster makes in the F0 register that controls GPU clock. Unfortunately it definitely doesn't work on my A110, there is no slightest difference in fps when applying gmabooster, there seems to be something wrong with either gmabooster or a110 hardware. Maybe a chipset hacking expert could shed more light on this :?:

I did some more research and found something promising:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/i ... 41228.html
So if someone wants to try just combine the info about the power connections and onboard RAM connections in the zg5 datasheet I've posted above and kill the VDD source for one chip. I'm tired of taking apart my AAO for a while. I've had it apart roughly ten times while modding it for overclocking. Is there no brave soul with soldering skills out there who wants to try :?:

Rock on Tim, that sounds awesome. Do you have any details on the RAM controller?

Are the two memory locations (onboard & DIMM socket) wired directly to the 945GMS (that's what it looks like)? If so, do we know how the 945GMS responds to memory in bank one vs bank two vs both?

    Nice collection of pics :)
This is the 1.8V DDR regulator:
    http://manfunk.com/pics/aa1/regulat.jpg
It should be possible to trace from there and disable a chip.
    ....
    stop!
    ....
While writing this I've got an idea! Why not cut the trace after PC124, find a common VDD trace at the RAM socket, cut that too and connect the socket's VDDin to PC124 with a wire. That way all onboard RAM chips are disabled at once and the socket is still powered.
Edit: Or cut elsewhere. I'd have to look at the board, where PC124 actually is. It seems that 1.8V is needed for other stuff like the card-reader too, so one would have to get familiar with the traces first. The cutting should occur somwhere where it doesn't affect PQ7 and PQ8.

I have a D150 model and there is no ram soldered to the board. I just removed the 1 gb and replaced with a 2gb.

Thats because you have a D series AAO. The A series AAO has 512 MB soldered onboard, with no direct means of disabling it, thereby limiting the maximum installable ram to 1.5 GB (a 1 GB stick and the 512 MB onboard). Since the chipset is capable of supporting 2 GB, people are trying to find a way of disabling the 512 MB onboard ram, in order to use a 2GB stick in the SO-DIMM slot.

A very powerful tool for reading hardware info and hacking registers is RW-Everything:
    http://jacky5488.myweb.hinet.net/
    It displays SMBios info too.

    Edit:
With DMItools a user posted here: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=16149
it is possible to change some vendor strings, so with a more advanced tool it should be possible to change other settings too I suppose.
