    SMBios says

    (512MB Memory array)
    Bank Locator: String2 - "Chan A DIMM 1"
    (1024MB Memory Module)

    Wahoo, my first post... hello!

I'm really looking forward to the outcome of this thread! But just for the fun of it I thought I'd try a 2Gb stick, that I had lying around, in my A150L - actually it was inside my girlfriends laptop - shhh, she'll never know...

To prepare for the event I had a bottle of Carlsberg then got right to it. I thought it was going to be quite difficult but it was actually fairly painless. Got the stick in and needless to say it didn't work. So I've ordered a 1Gb stick to try in the meantime now I know (ish) what I'm doing.

    Cheers.

ptuie..... Here in the right parts of Copenhagen we only drink Carlsberg, when we don't want to smell of beer. Real men drink Tuborg ;)

Tuborgs not bad... to be honest, I just buy whatever is on special offer! ;)

PS - Just realised my sig looks like I'm displaying my colour like this:

    Luke | 32 | White...

    I'll change it forthwith!

I might have some news to report...

As I got my netbook for free and am confident in my skills with a fine pitch soldering iron (or I'm just crazy), I did a little playing today.

What I tried is cutting the clock lines to the onboard ram chips, thereby making communication with them impossible (figured this would be the same effect as cutting power to them since that would seem to be next to impossible). No POST.

I then put my 1GB SODIMM back into the slot. Still no POST.

So just disabling the onboard RAM chips doesn't seem to work. If the SPD data is in the BIOS it likely makes it still think that the RAM is still there, then when it tests it there is an error = no POST.

BTW, I'm not an expert in any way... just a curious tinkerer. (oh ya... I was able to reconnect the clock lines, so it's running fine again).

Been delving into the bios today... SPD is definately 'insyde'. :p

    Found this...
Note #10... Can anyone get a copy of bios 2104 and 2103 so we can do some comparisons?

Also I've been decompiling the bios, can't seem to find an actual SPD table. It might be in one of the compressed modules...

I can watch the MemoryConfig Attribute change as I swap out ram, but in all likelyhood if I edited the attribute it would just redetect on the next reboot.

Damn... I thought maybe we could get some idea of how the Wind does it but they use an AMI bios...

Just had another thought for discussion...

Is there another Quanta netbook similar enough to the AOA150 without onboard memory? Just wondering if we could use whatever module enumerates the memory from that bios and patch it into ours, whenever we finally figure out which module controls this.

These are for AWARD bioses, we're dealing with an Insyde bios.

I've been thinking along similar lines. The possibility makes it interesting, and otherwise this has just been good fun brushing up on my x86 assembler.

Right now, I'm working towards identifying the functions of the various modules in the AAO bios. If you've reversed a few, or have any notes you can share, I'd appreciate it. I'm working off the 3310 BIOS, just because it is the newest.. but I'd be fine with rolling back to whatever version you're using so that we are working off the same page and so that we can talk about the specific GUIDs by number. It would be good to start a thread in the BIOS section detailing the various modules, to help avoid duplicated effort.

Someone could desolder the onboard RAM with a SMD hotair gun and then put a 2GB module into the RAM slot, in my opinion, it should work. It's like you would pull out the unnecessary 512MB module from the one of the two RAM slots. I think the 945GMS deals with two RAM slots.

Here are some good pages to read about the bios. The modules aren't programmed in ASM unfortunately. But you can see the different modules names in the file once you've decompressed it.
