There are more than one AAO that has the n550 processor. You need to post the model number and the kind of memory you are trying to install not just the size.

    Go to the Crucial site and use their memory advisor...It recommends Part #: CT1596442 • DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.5V • 256Meg x 64 • It's what I ordered for my d255-1268. Installed it and it worked fine.

    Hi Julie09,

The memory you tried should work since it is what Crucial sells for your computer. So maybe it is something else or maybe you have a bad memory module. When you boot up will it boot far enough to get into setup? When you have a black screen is there a blinking cursor in the top left corner? Have you reinstalled your 1Gb memory module and got your computer to work again? If so it sounds like a bad memory module to me as rare as that is.

Yes it sounds like a bad memory module.
Win 7 Ultimate will require a lot of resources and though people say it works it will not handle video and multitasking well. If you have it available then Win 7 Home Premium should work pretty well as it does on my D150-1920.

Check the part number, not just the specs...for some reason, these netbooks are really picky about what module you use. I first tried to install a different Crucial module that had the same basic specs, and no joy...

Re: help with my aspire one n550 upgrade

    I have the same problem!

I bought 2 kingston 2 gb ddr3 1066 and 1333 mhz. They both don't work! Today i bought a corsair 2gb ddr3 1066mhz module, that one also don't work! What's the problem, i never had issues upgrading memory!

    The standard 1 gb works!

    hello vanwalsum,

follow birdy426, that's what i did and is working, i just receive the memory and installed yesterday, only turn on once, will try later again.

    notes from birdy426:

i guess you have to purchase the exactly the same, that's what i did.

2GB RAM upgrade for aspire one D255 N550

Having some problems with getting the correct memory for this machine and would like to share my experience and seek some advice if possible please?

1st off I purchased the following chip:
    http://www.mrmemory.co.uk/modules/i...-L&Type=204 Pin SO DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500 1066MHz

Problem I had with this chip was what appears to be a familiar blank screen.
I found when I booted the machine it was fine, win 7 starter could see the new chip and reported back fine. The problem came when I told the machine to restart. Win7 wouldn’t restart, it just powered back up to a blank screen but with the normal power lights on. I found if I held the power button down the machine would turn off, I could then power it back on and it would boot up ok.
At this point I also noted the same issue with the android dual boot that I’d set up, plus after I’d manually restarted the machine into android it wouldn’t start windows 7 from within.

Now at this point I made the school boy error of trying all sorts of system restores, I wanted to rule out software 1st.
I should have just stuck the old chip back in and tried that. Think half of my problem was that I’d had to research how to get the RAM in the darn thing and although I’d done it once I was reluctant to pop it open and do it again (something I can now do in my sleep) So my lesson here is try your old RAM back in the machine if you get a problem, does it resolve the problem, if so it must be your new chip.

Spoke to my supplier who decided they sent me a chip that was the wrong speed, new chip arrived which was labelled 2GB DDR3 1333.
Unfortunately when I put this in the machine it wouldn’t bootup at all, just a blank screen with the power light on. Popped old RAM back in to ensure all was fine and it was.

Now at this point I decided I really needed to note the old chip details down and here is a funny thing, the chip is labelled as:
    GDDR3 -1333 1GB 128MX8 1.5v EP
    GU672203EP0200

    GDDR3 ??
How strange a quick look at the mighty Google starts talking about graphical memory for video cards?

Spoke to my supplier and mentioned the GDDR3 but they were a little puzzled by this??
They think it must be the chipset. They currently believe that I have the wrong chipset the old (good) RAM is 128mx8, has four chips on each side of the board and is thus a 1rx8 board. The chips they sent all had 8 chips each side of the board and thus were 2rx8 boards.

I’m currently waiting on a new chip to see if this works, one that is 1rx8. I’m guessing this will be 256mx8 or basically have 8 x 256MB chips, 4 on each side. This possible sounds true with something I’m sure I spotted somewhere here, I’m sure another person posted you need a chip with only 4 chips on each side?

    But does this sound right?
Do you think my new chip that is being sent will work?
And what’s with the old good chip being GDDR3?

    All assistance and comments welcome.
    Thanks
    Paul

So my supplier has now sent a chip that has: 2GB DDR3 1333 1rx8 on it and it works fine.
My understanding is the secrect to sucsess is to ensure the chip you buy is single rank, you made need to contact your RAM provider to make sure this is the case.
While I didn't get the right chip 1st or 2nd time I still got a great service, replacment chips turned up very quickley and I fully understand the complexity of getting the right chips VS all the new hardware coming out.

    Hi ICH5,
The short answer is no, sorry.
As the chip I finally got was a returned item, I cannot tell you the exact item number of the suppiler, plus I only noted the above details before putting in, (2GB DDR3 1333 1rx8) I think the best thing people can do i talk to whomever you buy from and make sure the chipset is single rank memory.
I used http://www.mrmemory.co.uk, i notice a quick look at the website and they still appear to be showing the old ram chip I 1st got that didn't work, that said after 2 trys & a couple of phone calls we worked out the correct chip & even with these problems I thought they were very good.
Best thing to do is note the exact chip you have in the machine, ie, 1GB GDDR3 1333, in my case, then give them a call to discuss.
The import part is the speed of the chip 1333 and then you'll need to tell them you require a single rank chip.
The simplest way to tell single rank chip 1Rx chip is that the little black chips on the RAM chip will only be on one side, NOT both, this is Double rank or 2RX.
    Hope that helps a little

    Paul

I took out the RAM from my AOD255-1134 (N550) to see what it is. The RAM it came with is SAMSUNG M471B2873FHS-CH9.

A little research came up with the following specs:

    M: Memory Module
    DIMM Type: SODIMM
Data Bits: x64 204pin Unbuffered SODIMM
DRAM Component Type: DDR3 SDRAM (1.5V VDD)
    Depth: 128M
    # of Banks in comp. & Interface: 8 Banks & SSTL-1.5V
    Bit Organization: x 8
    Component Revision: 7th Gen.
    Package: FBGA (Lead-free & Halogen-free)
    PCB Revision: Reduced Layer
    Temp & Power: Commercial Temp.( 0°C ~ 85°C) & Normal Power
    Speed: DDR3-1333 (667MHz @ CL=9, tRCD=9, tRP=9)

You can use this as reference for your RAM upgrade. The important thing is that you get a DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 1Rx8 (single-rank) So-DIMM.
