My AAO has a 160 gb hd and 1.5 gig of memory and runs with the Linux OS. I just bought a 500 GB Seagate USB drive and as wondering is i installed xp to this drive and selected it as a boot drive would that work. Also, with 32 Gig mem stick for $59 at Micro center, can i use one of them to install xp on and boot from that?

I have no experience of actually booting off a usb drive, however I have run a windows xp virtual machine off a 2.5" usb HD and a 16gb high speed flash drive. Performance wise; the 2.5" usb HD worked very well, the usb flash drive was total crap. By total crap I mean it took 15 minutes to install mozilla thunderbird, and it would take 15 seconds for a screen refresh after the start button was clicked.

In your application I am pretty certain that your results will be very similar to mine.
