Just for future reference. Who has a 3G capability in there 751h? and If so what is the part number of the 3G unit? is it also WiFi in one unit?

The manual says that the switch on the front is for turning of the 3G/WiFi adapter but mine only has wifi I believe(???)...and of course no Bluetooth.

So again my question is: what 3G adapter is acer using, does it need a Sim card, is it booth 3G and WiFi or only one at a time etc....

Sorry to ramble on, just hoping that someday, when I want a 3G data enabled 751h, I will be able to mod mine.

But am I going to pay for a 3G data connection any time soon?? probably not for $50 $60 a month for 5 G-Bytes are they crazy?...

Mine has a Qualcomm WCDMA model M00401 GTM382.
Its in a seperate slot from the Wifi card, which I believe from what I read, is not populated on the non-3G units.
The only extra connected to the card are 2 antenna cables.
The simcard goes in behind the battery, and again, not sure if the holder is there or populated.

Yeah $60 a month is a bit much but if you live out in the country it sure beats dialup. I love mine. I have the air card hooked to a router and run all my wireless computers. When I travel with my laptop I just remove the card from the router and take the air card with me. Plugs into a USB port. I get internet any where go. Yes I have a 5 gig limit but that is alot unless you are downloading movies. I have never gone over 2 1/2 gigs a month. It is also fast.

Your Ebay link is the exact one OEM-fitted in my 751h. The other one doesnt seem to have the 2 antenna connectors.

This is great info. I didnt realize my 751h and PCIe slots and that the 3G module was separate from the WiFi

Now I don't have much use for it as long as prices ( for service) remain where they are at. I might use it once a month if that. I'll wait till the prices come down.

Well I opened the back of my 751h this weekend and low and behold there is room for 2 cards, but the connector is not there for slot 2. slot one appears to have the WiFi adapter with 2 antenna connectors.

the 751 manual says and has drivers for both wifi and 3G... but is it possible to have both?

    Does this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCKED-Option-GTM ... 5004r23079

    the GTM382 card

also have wifi capabilites? if it does than this would be a worthwhile upgrade... but if not then I'll stick to wifi for now

No, its a 3G only card.
Sure would be nice though with a combined card, as this would leave me a spare slot to put some other candy in, perhaps a Broadcom HD card.

So it looks like at this point adding a second card is the best option to avoid loosing wifi. and this would require soldering on a second mini pci connector...
