3G dongle better with Linpus than with Windows?

I frequently move my 3G dongle between an ACER Aspire 1644 with Windows, a Security Suite and Internet Explorer and my basic model AA1 with SSD, Linpus and Firefox.

I get a better service on the AA1: it seems that Windows and the other software slow things down. I sometimes get timeout problems on the big ACER and can't access some sites: if I switch to the AA1 I can immediately access the pages. Yet another reason for getting an AA1!

Another discovery is that it seems that both laptops prefer you to use the same USB slot for the dongle each time, otherwise connection errors may arise.

I wonder whether any other users can report the same findings?
