I have not found anything interesting that you explain me with precision what I have to buy and as to perform the upgrade.
    1) I have to purchase a mini connector pci express?
    2) I have to purchase a slot reader sim card?
    3) I have to make some connection (bridges) additional?
    4) where I find the description with some images not to make errors?
    thanks to everybody

You only have to buy a Sim card reader on the D250 and solder in according to the discription.

With the D250, you have the Mini PCIe already and don't have to make any solder bridges.

I recommend you send me your motherboard, and I will perform the Sim reader install. PM me if you are interested.

    Hi,
I am new at this forum. Hope this post is in the right place.

I bought my acer FERRARI ONE 200 in Holland where I live.
Thought there was the wwan module included but it was not.. Not happy with that.

Now I am trying to find a way to install/modify my ferrari so a wwan/3g module can be installed and used.
On my motherboard there is no free pci-express slot.
At farnell.com I can buy one, as well as a sim-card slot.
If I solder the pci-express and simcard holdel in place and change the jumper setting.. should it work?
I wonder if somebody already managed to modify the ferrari so that wwan module is working.
On ebay for sale wwan modules, antennas etc.
I rather don't want to use an usb modem.

    UPDATE
    I started the mod.
Added pci express connector to mainboard and also the sim holder.
Bought the sierra MC 8780 wwan.

When I insert the Sierra it is shown in device manager as wireless aircard HSDPA modem.
However when I start 3G watcher it says 'no device detected'. sim card is not inserted.
    A few questions.
    1. do I need to insert sim card to get the device detected?

I also checked the pins on the sierra mc8780.
Connected are not so many pins.
    9+15 parallel (GND)
    21+27+29+35+37 parallel (GND)
    39+42 parallel ???
    4 GND
    18+26+34+40+50 parallel (GND)
    52 3.3v

These are the pins of the wwan card which are connected (as far as I can see with magnifier glass).
The rest of the pins are not connected.
In fact I only have 6 connections.. GND 4 times, +3,3V 1 time and res 1 time.
How can the signal go to the pc mainboard? is it via 39+41?
    Can this be right?

At the front there is a slider switch. Only can slide to the right but the switch is both ways.
I modified the plastic switch and now it can slide left as well as right but nothing happen when slide to left.
Slide to right turn off/on my wifi.

Any suggestions to solve te problems?

    Thanks

    UPDATE

When sliding the wifi switch to the left enables 3.3 volt at pin 20.
Sliding again and the 3.3 volt is gone.

Workaround - 2 (to use the wifi slot for 3G) ???

One of the sellers responded to this product ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123 ) inquiry as follows...

Is the above modem not dependent on a SIM ?, If yes !
Can this modem stand any chance of running on the wifi pcie slot (i mean does the wifi slots architecture support/detect/run this card ???)

As i have the "CDMA 1xEV-DO" service available in my location.[/quote]

I am quite certain that CDMA carriers never use SIM Cards. Not in a Cell Phone, and not in a Wireless Modem. Only GSM phones and devices use SIM cards. This is why you can't use GSM phones with providers that use CDMA, and Vice Versa. The exception is the few phones that have both types of radios. The BlackBerry Storm, Sold by Verizon in the U.S.A., has a SIM card slot, which is inactive, since Verizon is CDMA only. However if you can get such a device unlocked, it will work fine with any carrier.

Well what a coincidence, even i was eagerly looking forward to try this workaround.

And i did try, but confronted a problem, when i load the MC5725 on to the wifi pcie slot my aspireone wouldn't boot, besides the power button lighting up continuously there is no other activity/progress on the screen.

    other findings...
Due to the non-booting, I initially thought i had messed the BIOS and attempted the BIOS crisis recovery but even the crisis recovery wouldn't complete, when invoked, the power LED would continuously blink without end, pulling out the power and battery or a hard shutdown(press and hold the power button) was the only way out of this hung state.

@aaronouthier have you tried installing this card ? or are you just probing before attempting this modd ?

If i have any luck in having the card run through the wifi slot then i'll be sure to leave an update here :)

Now for help/insights that i need from this community, on the modd i have currently accomplished...

I have successfully soldered the 3G PCIe slot on to the motherboard.
Success of which i am certain because When i loaded my MC5725 CDMA 3G card onto this slot it was detected in my ubuntu network manager applet when i pushed the modified 3G switch to the left.

    Problem...

When i loaded the MC8781 (a GSM 3G) card to the same slot, I am unable see it (not detected) in my Ubuntu network manager or the windows device manager for that matter.

Is there a reason for this ???

    Some more backdrop...

Well I bought my SIM holder from here...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/SIM-Slot-Socket...erfaceCards&hash=item4a9ea3ed7d#ht_2846wt_804

has the exact pinouts as present on a AOA150 motherboard.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I have left pins 7, 8, 9 & 10 open(not soldered) further i have taped these 4 pins so that they don't short the pads on the MB

    1. Could the taping of the above pins be the reason why my MC8781 3G card's not getting detected as it is SIM Card dependent ?

    2. The MB pinout table for the SIM Card, for PINs 7 & 8 reads as N/A, does that mean they should not be in contact ?

    3. Is soldering of Pin 9 (for Common Terminal) and Pin 10 (Card Detect Switch) needed
or should it be avoided(left taped) as current state ?

Please let me know which of the four PINs should be soldered and which one of them left taped ?

    thanks in advance.

    Measure for zero resistance between these connections;
Sim Reader "VCC" - to - mPCIe pin 8 "UIM_PWR"
Sim Reader "GND" - to - mPCIe pin 18 "GND"
Sim Reader "RST" - to - mPCIe pin 14 "UIM_RESET"
Sim Reader "VPP" - to - mPCIe pin 16 "UIM_VPP"
Sim Reader "CLK" - to - mPCIe pin 12 "UIM_CLK"
    Sim Reader "I/O" - to - mPCIe pin 10 "UIM_DATA"

    Hi Jerry,
i have checked the above pins and they are connected.

However i was unable to successfully load the driver for MC8781 device.
The DC unlocker could not locate the device, i guess the card is having an issue. but i have no way to check for sure(any help to know for sure is sure appreciated).
All that happens when i switch on the 3G switch, us that the card registers as 'unknown device' in the device manager. :(

But when i install the EVDO(CDMA) device MC 5725, it is detected and successfully loads its driver when the 3G switch is pushed. So i guess it means my 3G connection(modd) is a success. However i have not yet connected through this EVDO device as i am yet to subscribe to a data connection.

Hard to say what could be the problem with the MC8781 ????

You need to try the card in another computer.

Did you know that the MC8781 has an internal flash drive which appears in the Acer bios boot menu? It is helpful information, to help determine if the USB connections are working properly.

Is the MC5725 a USB or PCI device?

Hi, Can someone help me out?

....Bought an A0531h-1729 on eBay for the soul purpose of using T-mobile 3G pre-paid sim card to browse the internet. The guy at T-mobile was like yeah, just make sure it has a sim card slot and we'll take care of the rest... whatever i'm on my own in the dark on this one...

my 3G card is Qualcomm UNDP-1 Model T77Z039.18 LF REV:03 and I live in the US. Windows XP Pro SP2

ANY Help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! When it's all said and done I was going to use the simple prepaid $30 a mo. for 300MB for use with my son so we can chat via Skype.

    Please Help!
    -Thanks,
    Leo
