What to carry the 9-celler in

Before I ordered the 9-celler I got myself a very nice leather sleeve.

It's without a brand, but very much the same as the PDAir sleeve.

I got it dirt cheap straight from Hong Kong, sort of like this battery =)

    http://www.allfreeship.com/shopexd.asp?id=2559

It fits perfectly the 3-celler and I believe it would fit the 6-cell aswell.

Im considering going to a shoemakers stand. At least here in Finland there are still left some small shops where they copy keys, fix broken shoes and work with leather. Perhaps they could add a bit to the "hinge" part of the case, allowing it to fit the 9-cell. But yes, then it would be too loose to fit the 3-cell nicely.

Have to see what I end up doing.

@ justme81, thanks for the detailed review and updates...

@ death.hilarious, ur country has the fastest intra-country delivery,...i thought u already have it
    ------
I rule out the possibility of having sent a 7200mAh in place of 7800mAh battery (or a labeling mistake) because Cameron Sino is not officially marketing 7200 mAh version.

I have sent the reports of justme81 to Cameron Sino for their review. I'll post their comments as soon as I have them

    Response of the Manufacturers

Here is the response of CS on the report of justme81

QUOTE "For Lithium batteries, the mAh with in a laptop battery pack test vs the mAh stated, as long as the mAh is within 90% will be considered as QA passed.
The couple hundred of mAh, is just a matter of few more + or – minutes of usage.
Even if you take Panasonic batteries to test, the results will be similar, they will not be exact, but it will be within the 90% range."UNQUOTE

maybe some tech guy on forum can deliberate on it
    Regards
    MF

According to that statement the battery I received does pass the QA, it's ~92% of the capacity.

As I've stated it's still a very nice battery, but it's just a bit of a question how the capacity is determined. If they do it so that all batteries are about
7200mah and marketed as 7800mah I feel it's a bit deceptive. In case the capacity varies from 7020mah to 7800mah in standard distribution or likes then its fair play. If the world would be a fair place to live in, they would report the average capacity instead of the maximal capacity, so you could get 5-10% more capacity than stated or less.

So it really depends on the distribution of the capacity, if other people report capacitys of 7400mah, 7300mah, 7600mah, 7100mah and 7800mah then its probably fine.

In case people report 7100mah, 7200mah, 7300mah, 7150mah, 7250mah etc then its deceptive.

I'm quite satisfied with their answer though, it's in the same line as the manufacturer 7hr usage of batteries that in real life produce 4-5 hours and only in controlled situation 7hr. For instance, if someone would claim this battery always delivers 11.5 hours that would be wrong, but saying it can deliver is almost true.

Still, it would be nice if they do change the designed capacity to the correct amount, hopefully someone will report if it's reported correctly later.

If this QA limit 90% applies to other batteries you could expect to get at least
    7020mah from a 7800mah battery (Reports: 7162mah, ...
    6480mah from a 7200mah battery (Reports: 6000mah replaced as wrong, 7117mah, 6946mah,
    5940mah from a 6600mah battery (Reports: 6440mah, 6512mah...
    *Reports based on different threads

Please let us know how the battery fits the AAO. I remember reading someone question the stability of the the way the battery was latched onto the computer and whether or not it would hold. Can anyone give an opinion here? Justme, does it feel right to you?

I think the battery fits quite well. There is a recent post on the 7200mah battery thread with a nice comparison between the shape of this battery and the "double-rounded" one.

    viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6730&start=70

    "double-rounded":

    Same as mine:

I have to say I think my battery (the lower pic) looks more stable. I haven't noticed any stability issues. I also carried the computer mainly from the battery, and the latch mechanism feels solid (basically the computer weighs so little it imposes quite small "torque" on the latch).

I did notice a small gap between the battery and the computer, about ~1mm, but it doesn't feel loose. The gap could only be seen from below, not from the side or back. I was wondering if I caused this gap myself, when I didn't notice the other side is manually lockable (and the other with a auto-spring), and kept it open for a while on mistake.

7800 mAh Xtreme Cameron Sino battery review

    I received my battery yesterday.

Packaging & Shipping: The battery was packaged securely in an antistatic bag within a snug padded box. The battery took 9 days to arrive in Toronto after shipping and I wasn't charged any duty fees (w00t!).

Look & Fit: My battery is white and it matches the colour of the original battery perfectly. While definitely much bigger and heavier than the original 3-cell I had, it doesn't necessarily make the aspire one feel that much bulkier when it's plugged in and being used. It's pretty unnoticeable from a head on view, except for the fact that it elevates the rear base considerably and creates a positive tilt to the keyboard (which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your typing preferences). The battery latches into place pretty securely in the same way as the regular battery (there isn't any looseness but it doesn't feel ultra-tight either). The battery very slightly restricts the screen when opening the screen to its fullest extent, however the battery conveniently has clear rubber padding where the screen can butt against the battery to prevent damage.

    Charging Results:

    Initial Charge/Discharge: 73260 mWh (6600 mAh) / 5:06 h (maximum load)

The battery arrived at 59% charge and read as having a designed capacity of 73260 mWh. The battery also only charged to 73260 mWh (6660 mAh) on the first charge, which was quite disheartening. I discharged the battery using BatteryEater (classic mode) and with all power saving features disabled and an external USB powered DVD player running on repeat to represent the absolute minimum battery life that could be expected, and it discharged in 5 hours and 6 minutes.

    Second Charge/Discharge: 78399 mWh (7062 mAh) / 6:59 (heavy load)

Mercifully the capacity really shot up on the second charging, gaining a whopping 5139 mWh, another gain like that and we're in business! Unfortunately with the gain it's now just approaching 7200 mAh capacity. I discharged it under constant moderate load (with everything on), to represent a more typical minimum battery life scenario. The battery discharged in just under 7 hours.

    Third Charge/Discharge: 79165 mWh (7132 mAh)

Considering Justme81's results, I was expecting the battery to go down this charge, but it's still gaining, which might be a good sign.

    Fourth Charge/Discharge: 79909 mWh (7199 mAh)

Not expecting any miracles from this battery, pretty resigned to the fact that it's a 7200 mAh, but hopefully it can break 80 Wh...

    Fifth Charge/Discharge: 79909 mWh (7199 mAh)

Looks like the battery has reached a final capacity. While I'm definitely a bit disappointed, this is still the highest capacity battery available right now and seems to be higher capacity than the 7200 mAh batteries (if only marginally). For those of you who were like me dreaming of 11 hours of battery life, the dream isn't wholly dead, it's just going to require you to bring along your old 3-cell ;) .

    Hi!

Nice to hear your battery finally arrived. Nice initial review, sad thing the designed capacity is still wrong. :(

Good thing your battery clearly went up from the initial charge, I'll be keeping my thumbs up that it'll keep climbing past the 80wh mark and stay there ;)

Just wait and see, maybe it will rise up closer to the claimed specification. But it's sad if both You and I have received 7800mah batteries that deliver 7200mah. Then user101 should at least attach the claimer to his site, that quality assurance is 90% of the claimed specification. Knowing what proportion is of lower specification is hard to know, but from our experience it's 100%. :(

    Dear justme81 and death.hilarious
    thanks for posting reviews

@ justme81: u r correct, I'll attach the disclaimer as soon as I find some time(travelling these days). For this battery, I've posted kinda 'ad' only at this forum so I suppose that all those who are making purchases now are aware of what they can expect....

anyways that doesnt spare me of my responsibility to post the necessary disclaimer...i'll do that at the soonest

I ordered this 7800MAh battery and am now trying to test as above.

Some interesting points that perhaps Justhink and just.hilarious could check:

In Battery Eater and BatteryMon in the info section the information seems incomplete and perhaps inaccurate.

    Serial number:1444
    Device name: UM08A71
    Manufacture date: 0/0/0

I wouldve thought the serial to be a little more sophisticated than 4 digits, and the 6 cell batteries are UM08A73 so why is this UM08A71, I wouldve thought it goes up in number not down.

Also what did it cost all in for you guys in GBP?

By the way to all who are worried about size/colour etc. I have the white one and it fits brilliantly with the color. It is big and heavy, but it still leaves the laptop smaller than any other and very portable for a flight etc. I was worried, but I am was pleasantly surprised about the size/weight factor. Dont misinterpert, it is big and heavier, but if you need the extra battery as I assume most would, it is, in my opinion, a worthy and reasonable trade off.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Cheers to this fantastic forum!

Is there a US source for this battery? Would like to avoid the $20 Hong Kong shipping if possible.

No one makes this battery in the US so it's going to be shipped from HK anyway. The demand for this type of battery is not great enough to justify a bulk shipment by any distributor.

I ordered this Jan 7 and received it from Hong Kong direct on Jan 19. The extended battery life practically changes the role of this device now that it can last nearly all day with above average use. I finally have an all day 'laptop', which has been a desire for years. Definitely worth the US$100 (including shipping). With EVDO/bluetooth connection via phone, I finally have Internet all day, anywhere with no need for power in the middle of the day. For me, this is a major breakthrough.
