I just picked up the 10.1" model after borrowing a friends 8.9". The real selling factors were the price, the access doors on the bottom, and the 5800mah battery which I got, though I heard some later shipments will have a 4400mah battery.(?) As stated with the 10.1" you don't really get more real estate but things displayed are slightly bigger. In the store having the 8.9" right next to the 10.1" I was able to put the 8.9" on top of the 10.1" and the difference to me really isn't that big in feel and portability for me. I understand some people want the smallest package but to me the 10.1" is in no way getting to the point of just going with a regular size laptop. Dell has a 12" mini and that to me is getting to that point of why bother? I sold an Inspiron 15" laptop and that thing was huge in every way compared to my 10.1". I guess it comes down to personal preference in the end. I do think they should have included the N wireless card and the 1.3MP camera most other brands have but for how often I'm going to use the camera it didn't matter and the wireless can easily be upgraded cheaply enough down the road if wanted.

    I agree with you 100%.

I was at my local Micro Center a few days back and actually placed the 8.6 on top of the 10.1.

without batteries, the 10 was thinner and the 10 looked like about 1/2" wider and deeper. i see all of these "size compairison threads" and they make the 10 look like a massive tank next to the 8.6. it was verry hard to thel the weight differance in your bare hand (the security lock didnt help either) The biggest differance is the amount of frame around the 8.6's screen is reduced and filled in with the larger screen. and the depth extention for the touch pad.

the differance is minimal... the tank like differance is that 5800mah battery.... and that is the reason i got the 10.. I wanted the 8.6 at first and i am glad i got the 10.. no questions.. if i had the 8.6, i would end up getting a 9 cell for it and that would make it larger then the 10"

I'll admidt i would get a second aspire one if there was a new 6" or something... ultra ultra portable... but for now. i am very happy with my purchace.. the 10" has exceded every expectation i had for it and has expanded more into my everyday life then i anticipated.. anything larger then a 10 would be pointless for my use.

Also, i'll mention that I know i would have upgraded my 8.6 had i purchaced it. The upgrading to 500gb HDD and 2 gigs of ram in under 5 min total was a nice bonus.. t

here are still many drawbacks... a higher resolution might have been nice. the new trackpad, while more ergonomic, is still on the verge of useless. the buttons are just to "stiff". An on/off for the wi-fi would have been nice instead of a toggle you have to turn off every boot. they could have added a volume knob now that they had some realestate (not everyone in the library wants to hear my windows startup chimes)... the lack of bluetooth bugged me, this complaint is more my own fault. i somehow thought this shiped with bluetooth and the fact the manual was for the bluetooth model. so i upgrade in a year to the bluetooth/N/3G model when the price drops and pass this unit on to another.

    As I said. I love my 10"...

The 8.9" is the best for netbook (small size..portability,)

The 10.1" model is small also and one notebook with 15,4" screen isn't too big. For the price of the 10,1" you can get a notebook with much BETTER specs.
If you need netbook get the 8.9" model , if you want the 10.1" model maybe the notebook with 15,4" screen is what you are looking for...

Not many notebooks for the 10" price but here's a new one on sale at microcenter:

Like I mentioned above, my D150 is tiny compared to the 15" laptop I had so I have no regrets even though my laptop was much more powerful but hey, I have a desktop for home and power use. Plus the 6-cell battery life can't be beat.

What you are saying is retarded.

Did you know that most other Netbooks use a 10" screen? The 8.9" Model was one of the few to use a screen that size.

I myself prefer the 10" model, it comes with a larger screen, better touchpad buttons (which BTW are stiff at first but loosen up when you use them) and I like the better looks of the palmrest area, plus the 10" can hold 2gb ram.

I had the option to buy both the 8.9 and the 10", and i spent $50 extra to get the 10". And it is NOWHERE near as large as my 15".

    As i said,

walk into a store that has both the 8.5" and the 10" on display, pull the batteries off them, close the lids and place them on top of eachother. You can hardly see a differance. all of these mock up diagrams people drew are out of scale.

The real differance is the 5800 mHz battery hanging off the back, As those are becomming more rare, that is no longer the issue.

Do i want an 8.6" ssd? yes i do,
will i give up my 10"? hell no.

I wont give up my 10" until the next generation or 2 goes on discounted sale.

PS, those 15" $350 laptops people are talking about, those are mobile nettops. an atom or the AMD version of an atom, 15" display and a dvd burner with a 4 gig memory limit... now those are pretty useless to most. but for a lower income family. or a basic student/web surfer. those "will do". but are not for me. walmart, microcenter and fer etailers have been pushing those for a few months. they are selling well, a lot of the people buying them seem to be entry level computer users or as gifts for young adults/teens.

Can you provide the make and model of any$350 15" systems using an Atom processor or its AMD equivalent (Turion64 X2 TL-52 I believe)?

What makes them "useless to most"?
