Not many useful ones if you're still using Linpus.

I found a couple autoupdaters in the xfce autostart list (xfce4-autostart-editor from a terminal), but I'm still can't get bootchart to make me a bootchart.tgz file, so I can't know if I'm making subtle improvements or not yet. I've even tried reinstalling it from source. Yarg.

I was planning to try the GNU Make trick mentioned here, however same problem:

I seem to get slightly faster build times using multi-threaded GNU Make thanks to the hyperthreading, so I figure why not. ;)

PoV: a thought about your bootchart problem: have you enabled mounting /var/log and other temporary directories to tmps in /etc/fstab?

If you have followed other instructions elsewhere about optimizing the OS that COULD be the problem - sometimes it's not being created properly.

I would comment (add a # in front of) all the tmpfs lines in /etc/fstab and try again

I'm still a relatively stock Linpus install. I really wanted to get some sort of profiling working before I started digging deep. Either way, I went ahead and double checked the fstab. The /tmp mount was already commented out, but there was another tmpfs mount I decided to try commenting (the name escapes me at the moment). Unfortunately it didn't help.

However, hehe... long story short, I uncommented the /tmp mount in the fstab, and as a result I'm now creating a USB key so I can go try to undo my mistake. ;)

[edit] Ok. Ahem. That fstab breaking I did is fixed now. Back to the original problem.
