Hi, I've installed UNR 9.04 on my 8.9" Aspire One. I love the OS, but the battery life is awful - I'm lucky to get a couple of hours of wireless surfing. I'm using Sickboy's kernel.

Anyone got any hints on increasing the battery life?

What battery you have?? Standard 3-cell or something else?? 3-cell battery is poor with any system...

It's the standard 3-cell, but I was getting a lot more life with Linpus.

Linpus is very simple system with lots of tweaks for Aspire ONE. So system is actually crafted for AA1. In any normal system - mostly default install there is a lot services and other stuff active. All of them are draining battery. You can obviously tweak them and have much better battery performance after that. If you only want to know more/read more/dig in Internet it could be very interesting experience...

There's a huge amount of tweaks and tricks for 9.04 on this forum, check out the threads regarding 9.04 from the ubuntu sections. Following those instructions and applying fan control etc I've gotten nearly 6 hours of wifi-use with my 8,9" SSD one with 9.04 Ubuntu and 6-cell battery. The stock installation of 9.04 drained my battery in about 4 hours or less, so I got about 50+% improvement by tweaking my system.

OK, thanks. I'll have a mooch around here and see if I can find the fan stuff - I thought I had looked, but obviously not hard enough :)

I liked Linpus but missed having a full-on OS. Also, Linpus kept disappearing off the the SSD for some reason.
