I got my 7200mah last week and after a few discharge/recharge cycles its capacity actually decreased. After the first two charges, Battery Eater and Batteryinfo both show it has a designed capacity of 73260mwh and actual capacity of 77848mwh. However when I did a full discharge the battery's actual full capacity became 76956mwh. I went through two more cycles and it stayed the same. I thought recalibrate the battery will earase the memory, thus maintain, if not increase, the battery's actual capacity. What could be the problem?

    >designed capacity of 73260mwh and actual capacity of 77848mwh

    Hi,

I purchased one of the original 7200mAh batteries and similar to other experiences mine wouldn't charge up after the second time. I posted the screen shots of the original and Handy, came up with the info that the battery that I had was actually a 6600 battery. The seller was very good at responding to my emails and sent a new battery. The second battery that they sent sounds similar to yours, a design spec of 73260 and an actual capacity of approx. 79000 ( I don't have it in front of me or I'd check).

My guess is that the battery controller has the 73260mwh number burned on a chip (probably from a 6600 version) and that is why it called a design capacity. I would doubt that this would effect the performance. Otherwise, I couldn't imagine how the computer would know what the actual batteries were. Whereas the actual capacity is a real number, and depending upon the wear and recharges ( I've heard that using excessive discharges such as Batter Eater may contribute to wear, but the info online is not definitive), this number will vary with the individual pack. I think that your number is only 1% different that my actual capacity so it sounds good.

    lasts a loooonnngg time!

Because of a work related demand, while I was waiting for the replacement I purchased one of the other designs ( the rounded version from Cameron Sino) it is a 6600mAh version. So, when things slow down a little and I find some time, I will try to post some comparative photos.

Please report real world battery life with and without WiFi turned on. I'm hoping for 6 hours with WiFi. Would also like to be able to watch a 2 hour movie yet still have a couple hours of life for browsing afterwards.

Hey guys, first post... I just nabbed a new AAO off ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0272519015) and am eagerly waiting for Christmas to get it. The big thing now, is I am a student, and got this to take notes (i know, i'll be pecking but oh well) and need a nice battery life. So I have been eagerly looking at some of the upgraded batteries. If those who have actually gotten the 9 cell batteries and have had them for enough time to give a good recommendation, any links to ebay sellers (in the US ebay site, don't really care where its shipped from as long as the quality is good) That would be awesome! And I just wanted to say hi, and I hope to be able to contribute to the community!

    congrats on the new AO.

    I purchased a "squarish" 7200 version from http://stores.ebay.com/ugooole

and the rounded 6600 version from http://stores.ebay.com/grade-a-battery

The first one from ugooole had a problem but as I mentioned they responded to my emails and promptly sent out a new one. Stuff happens... and the way I look at it they didn't make the battery but had do deal with the problem and they did what they needed to make their customer happy. So it's a pretty good test of someone on eBay and they passed with high marks.

The rounded version from grade-a-battery is slightly smaller and may be better if you are squeezing your AO into a backpack. With a little prodding it fits into one of those inexpensive neoprene sleeves from Walmart.

I received both batteries in roughly 8-9 days shipped to the northeast USA.

I don't think that I've had either battery long enough to tell you which is better and which will last. It's just a battery and I expect that at some point I'll need to replace it.

    good luck. 8

I just got one of the 7200 mAh batteries off of ebay... I've just cycled it three times and the results are: 72483mWh (of 73260) fully charged. So the controller chip states that it's a 6600 mAh battery and that it doesn't even meet the 6600 mAh specs let alone being a 7200 mAh battery pack.

Oh well, I've just emailed the vendor, http://stores.ebay.com/Sell-battery-to-worldwide , which seems to have pretty good ebay ratings, 400+, and we'll see how they deal with this... Definitely buying batteries on ebay is a bit dicey. Let's hope things work out... but the fact that this dealer is selling 6600 mAh batteries badged as 7200 mAh is not a good sign.

moderator - thanks for the forum and I appreciate the resource, I am not selling the items below, this is for information only, I am the end-user. Please feel free to remove or change any links that you feel are at conflict with the forum.

the ebay vendors below are the places that I was able to find the batteries, they don't manufacture them. And the place where I purchased the Cameron Sino version now seems to sell the other style from the other manufacturer in a 7800mAh model. It's always a gamble, so don't take my experience as an assurance that you will have luck or that these are the only vendors to choose from.

It's pretty clear that the one I got is a real 7200mah cell, after another round of cycles I got back to about 77100mwh. I have a trip coming up so I don't want to do any more testing. Battery Eater reports 5 hours and 41 minutes on it, that 's with Wifi on, CPU (and probably GPU too) at 100%, and screen 100%, and fan on. I also have a micro BT dongle plugged into USB. With what I call "max browsing" I have Wifi on, screen dimmed all the way down, no USB BT adapter, I get just shy of 7 hours. "Max movie" is with Wifi off, screen dimmed all the way down, and watching standard RMVB movie I get close to 7 hours too. If I just want to type a paper or reading an Ebook it'll last a lot longer, I just haven't got the time to test it.

IMO the CPU uses a lot less power than the chipset and Wifi module, so graphic intense work or browsing will result in much shorter battery life.

Great pics! What is a good source for the 7200mAh? How does it compare to the 7800mAh?

    who's making these things?

has anyone uncovered whether there are multiple manufacturers of these batteries? is Cameron Sino the only manufacturer of the "rounded" version? It's just a plastic case, controller and generic cells, so it's possible that there are a variety of factories with the capabilities.

SIMPLO shows up as the manufacturer within the BatterInfo app for both batteries, so I'm guessing that either they make the controller or someone has cloned their controller.

Does anyone have a battery that is showing a design capacity beyond 73260mWh?

I bought one of the Squarish ones pictured above from Global Laptop Batteries. It can be found at:

    http://www.global-laptop-batteries.com/ ... ttery.html

Ordered and delivered in 2 weeks to the US, $98.60 shipping included.

I've charged and discharged the battery 3 times to "season" it and am getting over 8 hours with mixed use. (movie, wireless or cellular surfing, idling)

Yes, it adds bulk, but the unit still fits in my case well (Best Buy Init DVD case). Having the available extra power is nice when travelling. The battery is a firm snug fit and can act as an easily grippable "handle". A nice detail touch of the battery is the rubber strip along the the top of the case. It acts as a cushion to the Acer's screen when tilted back.

its been a couple weeks with my 7200 "squarish" version and the 6600 rounded one. And no problems, curiously I find the squarish one to be more convenient for the same reason as you mentioned, it makes a nice shape to hold onto. And, the fit is very secure. Also, the black color and material fits the blue aao better than the blue plastic of the rounded version. Neither of these are deal breakers, and we don't know how long any of them will last, but I haven't had especially good results with OEM batteries on other laptops either.

    happy holidays!

Thanks for the pictures! Very informative indeed...
I just purchased this one for $51 (after $15 PayPal cashback promotion):
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250345365626
After looking at few of them, I realized that there is no way to tell who makes these 9-cell batteries. If you check the feedback of each seller, they all have + feedback from other AAO users. I haven't seen a feedback saying "it exploded while charging" yet :)
I was going to get an inverter for about the same price to be able to use it in the car (or in the plane) for long trips for my 2.5 year old, but I figured a 9cell battery could do the same and will give me the option of having it everywhere without looking for a power outlet.
    Cheers!

I just picked up a 9-cell from a US eBay seller in OR I think, wwd-inc. I offered $75 and it was accepted, got it a few days later and it's reporting 8 hrs. availability on a full charge (I've not changed any settings to see if it would eek out more). According to the eBay auction description:

    # Type: High performance ultra-density Tough-Cell(TM) Li-ion 9-cell 6600mAh battery
    # Compatibility: All Acer Aspire One models.
    # Battery life: Up to 9:37 hours under minimum load (individual result may vary)
    # Warranty: 12 Months

So far, so good. The weight isn't terrible and the screen tilt angle is reduced, but not obnoxiously. In any case, I can easily see me using this battery when blogging from conferences and wine events (and it would've come in handy during the Wine 2.0 event in NYC, where they didn't have extension cords available... at a technology event... :p ).

    Cheers!
