I was also getting annoyed with the system only lasting about two hours with the 3-cell. Very poor for a system you're meant to be able to take with you anywhere. So I bought a used 9-cell battery.

I haven't accurately measured battery life yet, but BatteryBar claimed 8h:50m just sitting at the desktop with WLAN disabled and brightness at minimum. Just under 6.5 hours seems realistic at the highest brightness level and with WLAN enabled. Wear is just 3.9% indicating a good quality battery compared to the 13.8% that my 3-cell was at even when new.

The 3-cell battery weighs 163g, 9-cell 430g. Since the AAO itself without battery weighs just 807g, the difference is noticeable. It's still an ultra-portable, just not quite as ultra-portable as before. On the other hand you probably won't need to carry the power brick with you everywhere you go, so you loose 315g there, plus the inconvenience of having to rush to a power outlet when that power LED begins flashing orange...

The 9-cell protrudes quite a bit

The keyboard is actually more comfortable to type on at this angle, though the touchpad is a bit less comfortable to use...

Sounds good. BatteryBar is just an estimate after all. Also the Windows battery meter claimed 10 hours, but it's usually overly optimistic. Only way to get a 100% accurate result is by manually timing it. Discharge rate is 6800mW at the desktop but that can easily double when you turn the brightness up, download stuff, stress the CPU etc.

I ordered one from battery laptop world (or something like that), and after a bit of trouble with customs and a hefty $40 fee, I have it. The first few charges it worked great. One the 3rd or so, I tried booting and it booted fine and then after about 5 minutes shutdown as if the power was immediately disconnected (the battery is firmly in place), and then booted again and had the same problem.
The charge is still fine and the computer seems to now run well, but I have no idea what the problem was, or if I can trust my laptop running on this battery. Has anyone else had this issue?

I did some google searching and have seen that people with MSI WInd machines have also had this problem with foreign batteries, and they have dubbed the term Random Sudden Shutdown (RSS/SSS)

I really dont want to send it back since it will likely be a pain in the butt with customs.

So what is the definitive word on a battery that lasts at least 6 hours and does not ship DOA 50% of the time?

My 8.9 acer got all jacked up the morning that I was leaving town for a week so I went to costco and picked up a 10.1. I must say that I am hugely impressed by its battery life and would like something that lasts as long for my 8.9 when acer sends the recovery discs to get it running again. I used to have to carry a power inverter onto the plane which is a pita. I have been surfing for about a half hour and the 10.1 has 8:40 of battery life left.

Hi guys, thought I'd give my input to the thread.
I bought my 9-cell from Dealextreme for around 40€ (free postal from Honkong to Finland).
It arrived well packed, with no probs.

    Battery bar stats:
    Total capacity 73 260 mWh
    Capacity 70 885 mWh
Wear 3,2% (haven't changed a bit since 2 weeks ago)
Lifetime: 6½+ h when I'm on the move with the integrated 3g on, also use wifi in certain spots during the day.

Alltogether I'm really happy with the battery, no complaints.

For one reason or another I never tried my 10.1 battery on my 8.9 but it does in fact fit and work. Once I get the 8.9 up and running I will see if it uses less power than the 10.1.

Hey all, I just purchased an 8.9" Acer Aspire One. It's the AOA-150-1786. I have a question about these batteries as I've been reading for about an hour on this forum. I want to order a 9 cell asap, and I'm interested in getting one from Ugoole's store. However, the computer I purchased is white, and the only white battery in his store says it's for the 10.1 Aspire One? Will this fit my 8.9? If not, I guess I either have to search elsewhere for a white one? I'm trying to order one ASAP! Thanks in advance!!

Hi, I'm using one of the 9 cell batteries on my Aspire One. I get over 6.5 hours while using either my 3G dongle or Wifi. I have had the battery for 3 weeks and it works well. It does add weight but I like the way it angles the keyboard.

I have a 9 cell from mambate. On average it gets about 4-5 hours with wifi on. It also exhibits pretty strange behavior: it discharges at a fairly normal rate, but when the meter (Win XP built in) reaches 50%, the battery will drop to 2% within about 10 minutes. I think it isn't sending proper info to the OS. It also shows in Battery Eater with a 7200 mAh "design capacity" but with a "full capacity" of only 4640 mAh. It also shows the thing as a 6 cell not a 9 cell.

I don't think it's worth sending it back or bothering to try for an exchange, but it lost capacity very quickly IMO. And I'm still getting 4-5 hours out of it, so...

I just received my battery from ebay user Ugoole. It's the 9 cell battery. BatteryBar says there is 1.5% wear :D Looks like I got a good one! I'll do some tests when I charge it up to see how long it lasts. I'd recommend Ugoole though, it took 8-9 days to get from Hong Kong to here, NJ USA.
