Ok, I am a moron, I was messing around in bios, turning on some security options. I added a user password and supervisor password, then enabled password at power up. So I reboot and the password screen comes up asking for "Current" password, but the password I set up is not working, essentially locking me out of everything, no bios, no boot options, nada. What's my recourse, here?

The BIOS password is IN CAPITALS, even if you input it in lower case.
That might be the problem, try to give your pass with caps lock on.

That has nothing to do with linux, just the bios on the Aone. Passwords in linux are case sensitive just like windows. :ugeek:

erm ok.... i just did exactly as cccling described, except what ever i try it wont let me in...

i type in the correct password and it just comes up with the blank password field again.

its weird because i set a 9 letter password, and when i go over 9 letters it starts again for another attempt .
after 3 attempts it says system will halt :(

    any ideas? its pretty annoying....

This post: http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=3962&p=26887&hilit=bios+password#p26887 indicates that flashing the BIOS wipes out the password. Could be a way of resetting it and starting again!

I haven't set a BIOS password so don't know - is there perhaps an 8-character limit?

    You're a life saver!

I can't believe it needs password in capitals... WOW

Again, thanks! I couldn't understand how I managed to lock myself out since I couldn't do wrong in the password...

hi! my experience is that i used the Tab key as password, it allowed me to do so, but wouldn't allow me to input when i need to enter the password on boot. I took it to Acer and they said this is a special incident so they won't charge me(because this is not a problem course by me!!!), I left the machine at Acer for about 4 days and I told it back. (I am in Hong Kong)
take a look at my post:http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=3962&p=26887&hilit=bios+password#p26887

if they charge me, they will charge for HK$300, thats about US$40
