Hi, I have a Acer Aspire one A0532h with windows 7 starter.
Recently all the sudden my built-in webcam has stopped working.

It is very strange because it still works in Ubuntu. On windows it seems to think my
webcam is a usb device even though it is built in. Every time I go to acer crystal eye, it says webcam not detected, please
plug the device in. I'm confused.
I installed the suyin driver because I thought that might be the problem, but crystal eye still doesn't work.
Although I can goto the builtin program with the driver called "live cam", my webcam works there.

But I can't use video in skype or programs like that for some reason?

What driver comes with the Acer A0532h?
the acer crystal eye application was published by Lite-on, but whenever I tried to install the lite-on camera driver it never installed, it always said i need to plug in the webcam. but the suyin driver installed fine. just acer crystal eye and skype and other programs don't recognize my camera. only the suyin driver recognizes the camera.

any thoughts on how to fix this problem?

Win 7 Starter is crippled in many ways, but I don't believe it's responsible for the cam malfunctioning.

That says to me that it's a driver issue, you could try uninstalling it from device manager, and uninstall the "drivers" that you have installed. Win7 supports the cams out-of-the-box, so you shouldn't really have to install a driver. The software you get from the Acer website isn't actually a driver as far as I can tell, but moreso just a control program, which you can use to test the device, take pictures and videos etc.

Even though they're built in, they are indeed USB webcams. They still connect to the computer through the USB bus.

I had the same issue recently. Elpaulio and I were discussing it in another thread and wouldn't you know it, no sooner had I told him my cam was fully functional than Windows Live Messenger started reporting the cam as "not found". Mysteriously it fixed itself somehow.

According to the Acer site, there is no downloadable driver for the webcam in the 532h, it would seem that the drivers are indeed part of Win7 and it should work out-of-the-box.

I would try going to the programs/features control panel and uninstalling any software for the cam that you have installed, followed by uninstalling the webcam from device manager, but before allowing the computer to re-detect the cam, shut down, remove the battery, remove the charger, hold the power button down for about a minute, then hook it all back up and boot it up again. The cam should automatically reinstall, then you can test in skype to see if it's available.
