I see alot of people saying they cant install stuff onto their linpus machines etc.
can you not just find linux versions of stuff and install it?

whats the best method to do stuff. should i install xp, stick with linpus?
just want the easiest thing really. but will want to install programs.

EDIT: if i follow this guide viewtopic.php?f=38&t=52

i've ran into problems installing things from the package manager due to missing dependencies.

I've not had a ton of time to try to resolve the dependencies/repository issues yet however.

and I'm debating how to proceed?

As I underdtand it, the problem stems from Acer customizing the system so that ou are expected to only install software through the AspireOne website. They also take care of all the updates via. liveupdate. The use is not expected to acess advanced more and run teh package manager themselves.

If you do, as you might imagine, there are problems.

Installing individual software is do-able, but you still run the risk of running into issues.

For the record though, VLC goes smoothly ...for most people!
