Hi, Have any of you come across a problem with the first (nearest the front of the netbook) usb port on the right of an Aspire one A150 or A110? No matter what I plug into that port windows 7 declares it as an unrecognized device.

Both of the other usb ports are fine although I have noticed that the webcam is apparently missing - could a faulty webcam take out that usb port?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Andy.

Ok I did a little more digging and although I still don't know what the problem is I can safely name a few thing's that it's not.

I disconnected the web cam module and tested the usb port again - still no go so it's not the camera module.
I disconnected the screen cable from the motherboard and booted via an external monitor and tested the usb port - still nothing so its not a short in the screen/camera cable.
I plugged a usb lamp into the port so know that it is at least supplying power.
I formatted the drive and installed XP - still the same problem so it's not a driver or OS issue.

I'm hoping the problem lies in either the daughtercard or the cable that connects it to the motherboard so have ordered a replacement from ebay. If that still doesn't work then I guess that only leaves a fault somewhere on the motherboard.

Well a new daughtercard and cable didn't fix the problem so I can only assume now that the fault lay somewhere with the motherboard

Oh well finally had enough and fitted a replacement motherboard obtained from ebay. My little toy is now working fine again along with a few mods (touchscreen, hsdpa, gps and bluetooth).

glad to hear you got it sorted, but sorry the fix came at the cost of a new motherboard. Congrats on the new mods btw.

Thanks, I got the board reasonably cheap so it was just a pain having to do all of the mods over again. Still it gave me something to do on Saturday morning I guess
