ok, I'm a beginner. I downloaded the program from your website (I clicked on 'version 0.4'), but I can't open the RAR file... What next?

    thanks!

When I do that it tells me mscomctl.ocx is missing.

It is not included in the VB6 runtime files I downloaded and installed. I checked the list of what is included in the cab. It is not there.

You need a program to unpack the rar archive. I used jZip. Google rar or jZip.

if you're using the microsoft vb6 update, then it won't work unless the file exists to begin with, so you'll first need to download a copy of the file from another source. try the link below, then run the ms vb6 update afterwards.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/mscomctl.zip

edit: and the link to the ms vb6 update file:

Never mind, I have my icons shrunk so small that I couldn't see what it was showing, it just looked like a DOS box window to me..

I see to be unable to change the TemperatureTextColor value. Default was white but if I make any changes, it becomes black only. Is there a way to change that?

You must use the html hex color format, ie: RRGGBB, with the &H prefix before, like for example &H00204f.

Also for the mscomctl.ocx missing problem my mistake it seems it's not because of the VB6 runtime, but something called "Microsoft Common Controls Runtime" (if I remember well). It should be available for download on the MS website.

Finally, for those having problems with the fan control and the latest bios, I'm investigating that problem, but first try to flash again the bios, with a different method (ie if your flashed on windows, try from DOS using a USB boot, if you did it from DOS try doing it on windows), cause it seems sometimes (I don't know why) this bios doesn't correctly updates the EC controller firmware (which control the fan). I'm working actually with someone experiencing that problem to resolve it.

ok, I downloaded jzip and unpacked the archive. Now I'm showing a list of: three .exe applications, winio.dll, winio.sys, and a readme doc. I ran 'a1ctl.exe' and then I got an error message: Run-time error '53': File not found: WinIo.dll

Now what? Should I run all these things? In any particular order?

Sorry. I need step-by-step instructions...

    thanks!

Try copying the winio.dll file to C:\windows\system32 folder. Then run a1ctl.exe. I did not have to do this but it's possible that you need to. If that doesn't work, then you will need to register the file by going to start -> run, type in "cmd", press enter. Then type in regsvr32 winio.dll

Argh--I must have done something wrong:

After copying and pasting winio.dll into the system32 folder, I got this error message: "Can't initialize IO access"

Then, when I added it in cmd, I got: "winio.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."

I think I must have missed a step prior to this (?). At first, I just downloaded version o.4. Then I unzipped the files and just ran a1ctl.exe. Should I have ran anything else?

Thanks. I feel like an idiot. This should be easy, right?

I Just downloaded it this afternoon and it is running fine. XP sp3, bios 3305 - I had to download the ocx from Majorgeeks and register it per your instructions. Rebooted and patched and things are great. Nice piece of work, have yet to try out all the options, but will contribute to the dev soon. Great job!!!

Does anyone think it would help if I flashed my bios to 3304 or 3305 (I currently have 3301) and then tried downloading the app again?

    thanks!

i don't know if this has been discussed, but the application also inserts an a1ctl power scheme profile into the window's power options properties (display properties -> screen saver -> power). atleast it did on my machine when i checked. just a head's up for those that use a custom/personalized power scheme profile.

i sent the author an pm asking what other changes are made to our windows settings that he didn't disclose, but so far no response.

Battery meter stops working when a1ctl is installed, a1ctl does not display temperature and the fan always seem to run faster than before a1ctl was installed.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, any help appreciated but for now a1ctl has been uninstalled.

if you're gettting the mscomctl error, visit this page

Noda, if you visit here, please add that link to your download page. It'll result in a lot less frustration by your users and probably more donations.
