It works at first try on my 160GB version (no modding yet) of AA1 without any problem (Windows XP Home SP3 updated to date). The only problem I have a1ctl has different temp read compared to coretemp. 51deg on a1ctl read 58deg on coretemp, so there is 7deg different. Can the author advise what is the difference?.

As I answered you, this new power scheme is copied from the one you were using, so your settings are kept. The only changes made to this scheme concern the CPU management.

That's normal, coreTemp read the temperature directly from the CPU sensor, wheras I get temperature from the ACPI zone sensor, which regroup the CPU and the chipset, and is located somewhere between them.

Noda, great program, but I am having a problem. It wont seem to activate slow mode. I tried just selecting it, no go. I tried setting the threshold at like 55 degrees and letting it cross it, no go. Auto and Off work great, but If i select slow the fans just stay off. Any suggestsions? I am on XP. Thanks!!

It's on the FAQ (on my website and the readme file).

Slow mode can't be activated under 37°, otherwise the fan will go full speed, so under 37°, slow mode = off.

Hey thanks for getting back to me Noda, but I read the FAQ. I understand that slow doesnt work under 37 degrees. But see my previous post where I said i said i set the threshold at 50 something degrees? I am doing these tests when the temperature is in the mid 50's, nowhere near 37 degrees...

So I am still a little confused. I searched and no one else seems to be having a problem.

    Thanks!

I installed A1ctl this afternoon with no problems and it seems to work perfectly, adjusting to the temperatures I set. The author should be thanked.

My one question has to do with the option to prevent HD clicks. I've heard very subtle clicks now and then but hadn't thought about them. Mr. Noda's writeup and some googling tell me that the clicks are from head parking as a protective mechanism against sudden bumps. Mr. Noda says the option "almost" stops the hard drive management, but does that increase the risk of data loss from ordinary uses, that head parking would prevent?

These things are so portable it's easy to move around the house with it on, and my habit is to carry laptops in a bag in Standby mode. So I worry about anything that might disable protective head parking in ordinary uses like that. I'd like to know a little more about when the head will park under this control. :?:

Would be possible to correct the routine that disables the built-in camera in order to save power? Currently the softare disables the camera device but this does not result in power saving. The USB hub where the camera is connected still shows current beeing drawn by the camera. I think the actual USB hub device where the camera is connected should be disabled as device in order to cut the power to the camera, as the hub does all of the power mangement for devices connected

Almost perfection, but like ripcordaff I am having trouble with the Slow fan mode: the fan remains off until the Auto mode temperature is reached.

It would be useful to get to the bottom of this issue as I suspect a slow running fan will mean that the Airbus Auto mode will seldom ever need to kick in.

Could the problem be related to previously using AA1FanControl?

Having researched and played with A1ctl during the NFL warmup and Bills/Patriots game, I've settled for the time being on the following:

    - leaving wi-fi on and disabled power saving in the Atheros adapter for max performance (thanks to another tip in the forum.)
    - disabled LAN and Cam until wanted
    - Leaving CPU on dynamic MaxPower setting for both AC and battery, after reading that Intel improved its Speedstep for the Atom. (800Mhz is plenty for most of what I do but want the system to adjust to video, etc. without me playing with settings.)
    - found downscaled 1024x768 works nicely, but screen reverted to default after reboot while the setting on A1ctl was still there.
    - am leaving HDD free to "click" until I'm convinced the option is safe

Above settings reduced normal temp reading from 55-58 to 52-55 range on AC and a little less on battery, so set custom fan parameters to Off 57, Low 58, Auto 67

All in all a great little application.

What temperature is OK for the Aspire One ?
I don't want to burn it down
When I browse the web I get 49ºc to 61ºc and when I also watch a video it goes up to 67ºc
    Is that OK ? :p
Just wanted to know » I don't know anything about the temperatures!! :D
It would be great if I would get a reply from someone.

Ive got this occuring too. garbage software.
the baterry meter not working is to due with the acpi patch, ive at least worked that out.
Same system, software and bios as you too

Salut, je pense que tu devrait enlever l'option pour downclock à 800Mhz, vois mon explication ici:
    viewtopic.php?f=44&t=6761#p44549

PS: Did you abandon reading the temperature from the MSR?
It looks like the ACPI EC register reports 10 degress lower than what CoreTemp reports

Should we at least add 10 degrees to it?
Removing the ACPI patching will be great :D

daijoubu, whenever I run CoreTemp it is always within a degree of A1ctl. Why would the two programs read the same temp on my aa1, but read different temps on other aa1's?

i think the fan control author already wrote somewhere in this thread or another thread that his program doesn't read the digital thermal sensor the way coretemp does, but rather another temp reading. the dts is inaccurate +/-10c anyway (says so in the atom datasheet), so comparing temp readings from one cpu to another seems pointless.

No, cause there is lots of cases where locking the CPU to 800MHz is useful, and here is one for example: when running starcraft, CPU is used 100% all the time (1600 or 800 MHz), due to the way it was programmed (and it's the case with a lot fo games), but when the CPU is locked to 800MHz, the games still runs the same while the power consumption goes down.

And as for reading the CPU temperature from MSR, it would require to write a kernel mode driver and I unfortunately don't have the time to do this.

I absolutely love this program, I'm running version 0.4 on XP. My machine came with BIOS 3305 on it, but I'd like to try 3307 to see if the screen brightness controls work. Has anyone tried a1ctl with BIOS version 3307 yet? Thanks!

Edit: to answer my own question, a1ctl does work with BIOS 3307 on my machine.

Just to confirm that you're not the only one who gets this problem with the same hardware. The reason the battery meter stops working is because, according to the power settings, the machine is running off the mains adapter when no adapter is actually connected. Even though I no longer started a1ctl, the fan still seemed to be permanently spinning at full speed. Fortunately for me, I was able to restore from a recent Ghost image I made.
