A1CTL shows 10°c more than SpeedFan.
    What should I trust ?

Same here, a1ctl has been uninstalled. But the fan keep spinning at full speed, and the processor also always run in 1,60 GHz speed. Anyone know how to fix this? I try System Restore, but that doesn't work.

OK, I had another go at this. XP's own battery meter still doesn't work with ACPIEC patching enabled but at least A1Ctl's own battery and temperature SysTray icons display correctly now.

I still have an issue with fan control though. I set the three temperatures in the config dialog to 55, 60, and 65 respectively. When the config dialog is dismissed the fans switch off but then come back at full speed a short while later, even though A1Ctl is reporting a core temp of less than 50C. The fan then runs at full speed for short bursts every so often until the A1Ctl process is terminated.

It appears to me that a1ctl is checking the temperature every few seconds and setting the fan speed accordingly, but another process (BIOS interrupt handler?) is taking over and setting the fan speed in the meantime. To my certain knowledge there is no other fan control software installed on my AAO.

I haven't read through the entire thread so I'm not sure if this has been flagged or not...

I installed the program, used the Patch ACPIEC option, rebooted and regardless of settings I could not get the fan to slow down or turn off. Also, the temperature did not show in the systray icon.

I then UNpatch ACPIEC, reboot and I can now fully control the fan. The temperature now shows in the systray icon. Obviously this mean my event log gets filled up like there's no tomorrow but at least I've got better management over the fan now. The other big plus for me is disabling the HDD clicking :)

I congratulate Noda for coding such a great utility. Even more when it was coded using VB6!!!
I got more control from my AAO now, and the battery life has improved since i can throttle down the CPU and disable devices.
    Thanks!

Sorry if I am asking a question that has been answered before. I read all the posts byt still don't quite understand...

I installed thur the link on the first post. The first time I reboot, the temp box show on the tray. The config dialog shown up and I make some temp setting adjustment. Then I shut down and re-start, and the temp. box no longer there and I can find a way to open the config dialog again.

I am sure it is working properly. The fan sounds like running less often (what I have set the first time.) Also there is multi resolution I can choice (nice!!) on the display setting. I can also find "a1ctl" profile in the Window / Control Panle / battery managment.

How do I make the temp. box and config dialog appear again?

I read on previous that I can edit a file? what is the full name of this file? where in my hard drive is this program saved?

    Appreciate for any info.

    my AAO: 1GB / Window-XP / 160GB HDD

I have reverted back to BIOS 3114 (because BIOS 3308 thinks that my LCD is affected by flicker when the backlight is on the lower settings - it isn't though) and still have no proper fan control with A1Ctl.

I have been experimenting with aaocontrol.exe to poke values into the 0x55 port. My fan does not seem to behave in accordance with the recommended 0x55 control values, which may explain why A1Ctl does not work for me. Reads are weird as well - most EC port reads return 163 decimal.

AA1FanControl does work beautifully for me though. My CPU temp seems to stabilise around 55C at idle and so I have set the On temp to 65C and the Off temp to 60C. My AAO is now mostly silent under light use.

It would still be nice to get to the bottom of the A1Ctl issue though.

Just wanted to offer my thanks for this great utility that you have created. I tried Speedfan (wouldn't acknowledge my fan), AA1fancontrol (doesn't offer the controlability I wanted), and neither one did what I was looking for. My problem wasn't loud fan related, I just wanted the ability to get a little longer life out of my three cell battery. The ability to easily toggle unneeded devices without having to mull through Device Manager is awesome!!! And the easy underclocking of the processor is great, too!!! :D

It took me a couple of tries to get it unzipped and installed properly, but once I did, it works great. Kudos, to the developer!!!

NOTE: The problems I had unzipping and installing were related to my own ineperience with technology; it had nothing to do with the software itself.

    ronime,
When I tried a1ctl, I got the same thing using 3305 BBios. So, I switched to AA1FanControl. Works perfectly. Set it at 60C off and most of the time the fan is totally silent.
I wonder why we are having so much trouble with a1ctl?? I, too would like to sort out a1ctl problem on my AA1.

Thanks very much noda for this great application.

The "slow spin" is a great feature of your program over others. Using AA1FanController, when the fan was off, my idle temp climbed up slowly, eventually reaching the "fan on" temp. Then started the "loud fan for 30 seconds, fan off for 2 minutes, loud fan for 30 seconds" cycle. I most rather have a slow spinning fan in the background that I can desensitize myself to ignore after 15 seconds as opposed to constant on-off cycles which cant be ignored at all. With the default settings, the computer idles around 50-51. This doesn't give me the "silent" AA1, but I can live with it. I tried increasing the "fan off under" temp to 55, but that doesn't make that much difference, because the temp climbs to 55 in few minutes and stays there with slow spin. So, why not have the same thing at 50 :)

    Thanks again!

    Same thing here.
My fan starts with windows at low speed, as soon as A1ctl starts it turns off - to start a few seconds later at high speed.
Then it takes a while, ~3min., to slowly go back to low speed in many small steps.

I have an A110L with XP SP3 and BIOS 3309

Unfortunately I cannot use AA1FanControl any more, after several seconds my AA1 automatically turns off, when that driver had launched.

Can anyone please help me with that problem.
So far I don't have any working programm to get my fan quiet.

anyone get this to work on WIndows 7 Beta-1 ?

When i try to register the mscomctl.ocx file i get this message:

The module "mscomctl.ocx" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c

I am running Bios 3509... this program worked fine for me in Windows Vista

I got my A150 1GB 120HDD for Christmas and have just installed this great programme.

It originally came with Limpus Lite, but I immediately put on XP Professional I am really pleased with it.

Before installing a1ctl my fan was on all the time, but now it is off for most of the time. I have it set to:

CPU Dynamic for battery & mains
Stop fan under at 50 oC
    Slow mode at 55 oC
    Auto mode at 60 oC

With my 6 cell 6600mh battery the battery meter show in excess of 8 hours to start with :D

From what I can make out so far, it seems to run silent most of the time. It starts pretty quickly if I start watching clips from my HD camera, but that is understandable, but for some reason they seem to run in slow motion???? no idea why.

Thanks again for a great little app :)
