I'm running 3308 (the latest is 3309, I think) and it works perfectly under XP & Vista. Like the other user, I can't seem to get it to start up with Windows 7 though. As for the pop-up warning, I disabled UAC so I don't get that message. I hope the developer updates the app so it works for Windows 7. In case anyone else is interested, the Windows 7 Public beta launches tomorrow!

    my settings:
    Stop: 64°C
    Start: 66°C
    Auto: 74°C

After i edit the .ini file, and i set:
    TimerInterval=1500

Why ? At 62-63°C, on my AA1, just before stopping, the fan run at "auto speed" during some seconds. With a too large time interval, AA1Ctrl don't stop the "slow fan mode" at 64°C and reach 62-63°C. With this temperature, the fan is too noisy for me.
I use a fan control since september 2008, and i have no problem. My AA1 run 2hrs per day.

Seems to work swimmingly well with BIOS 3309 so far... I had 3305 out of the box and installed 3309 today (tho I've had the AAO since Dec), just installed a1fanctl and noticed I was idling in the low 50's so I changed the "Stop fan under" setting to 55C... Ahh, silence. I might end up bumping it back down to 50C though, it's usually 80F+ here so chances are I'll be getting up to 60C whenever I power it up and use it for more than 10 min., we'll see, I just wanna avoid the on/off cycles.

The only discrepancy I've seen is that the tooltip pop-up for the chip/temp icon (which displays the remaining battery % and life) doesn't update as often as the separate battery icon, which in turns seems to update just a liiittle bit slower than Windows own icon. I'm sure the estimates are a guesstimate anyway as it changes dynamically depending on what you're doing, so it hardly matters much... Probably uses less power the less it updates even.

The screen res switching option is so nice to have within the same app, I've been fidgeting with a few programs that have non-scaling UIs (such as SUPER) and this saves me a lot of trouble. Absolutely loving a1ctl Noda, I'll donate later this week if I'm still satisfied.

I should note, I was speaking mostly about the time estimate on battery life, the % is usually the same between all three icons, I'll probably just disable all icons 'sides the chip/temp one... I've got the laptop's LED to tell at a glance when it's charging anyway.

What does SingleIconMode do in the ini config file btw? I just realized later on after writing my previous post Windows always displays it's battery icon when running on batteries (the option it gives you only allows ya to turn off the icon when running on AC power)... Is Singleiconmode supposed to hide said icon? (I noticed other people complaining that a1ctl did this inavertedly) I tried changing the value to True but nothin' happened... :?:

One other question, the three temperature thresholds work the same? IE Once the fan is on Auto it won't go back to Slow mode unless the temperature listed under "Start the fan in Slow mode at" is achieved? I hadn't heard my fan on Auto since installing a1ctl 'till I started closing a1ctl to test those ini settings, the AAO had been up for a while so the temp rose up to 65 and the fan spun up, now it's back to idling in the low 60s as it tends to do when it's been on a long time but the fan's still on Auto...

So I take it that it'd have to get to 60C before the fan went back into Slow mode? Just trying to get a bearing on how it works exactly so I can make the proper adjustments.

Yes. You have to run it like in Vista. I.e., "Run as Administrator", compat for XP SP2, etc. (From the right-click menu if you click on the shortcut. You may also have to install the mentioned run-time from MS. NBD...

You don't need to set the compatibility to Windows XP SP2, all you have to do is, turn off UAC or Run as administrator.

Compat mode if you don't want to turn off UAC, and so the auto-start feature works without pop-ups.

    To each their own...

Having issues with the install of A1CTL.
Have Linpus and Vista dual boot.
I am following he instructions on the hotukdeals main thread on how to install this :

but I get two of three popup errors followed by IO error when I try and load the A1CTL app.

The instructions above say I have to load the runtime first before loading the a1ctl apps - is this runtime not required for Vista and thats why Iget the errors. Have I now now screwed the OS?
    What do I do next?
    Cheers

You don't need to install the runtime - it doesn't do anything on XP or Vista!
On Vista or Se7en, you just have to run it as administrator and job done!

On XP however, download and extract A1CTL.
    Follow the instructions here: http://majorgeeks.com/faqshow.php?id=8

It has always worked for me :D
    P.S. 7-zip is better than WinRAR! ;)

I just installed this great piece of software on my AAO yesterday, and it looks like it's going to be very useful :)

However I do have a couple of problems with it...

How accurate is the temperature reading? There is a whopping 20 degrees celcius difference between A1CTL and CoreTemp!! I know that they are taking the readings from different places on the Atom chip, and that either reading is probably accurate to +/- 10 degrees, but 20 degrees!? This makes it very difficult to know what temps to set my fan speeds to, as 60 on A1CTL is 80 on Coretemp, which is getting close to the max recommended/reliable operating temp of 90. Any thoughts on which reading is more accurate?

I love the idea of being able to turn off the LAN/Wifi/WebCam when not in use, especially when using the battery. Unfortunately the WebCam bit doesn't seem to be working properly... It turns the webcam off just fine, but it doesn't turn it back on properly, I have to goto the Device Manager in control panel and turn it back on myself :( One possibility that did occur to me is that I'm using the default Microsoft driver as I've read that the Suyin driver causes issues with sleep/hibernate under XP. Anyone else getting the same problem?

It is good software. There've been several exchanges about temp settings - most find that under ordinary browsing / office use the One should be in the low to mid 50s with the slow fan coming on now and then. I've set 52 stop, 55 on, and 65 high and it runs within a couple of degrees around 54. I use the prevent clicks, ACPIEC patch and don't throttle at all. (Being too ugly for it, I turned off the webcam and have never tried to restart it - will have to try.)

I have this piece of software on my netbook for about 7 months now and I have always been using it in `Custom Mode` but as it crashed once, and my fan remained off, I still could watch videos, do extended-desktop with my 15" monitor and surf the web without overheating, it went up to 81c as far as I know. Now my fan has been "off" for about an hour and the temperature idles at 64c and it's not that hot at the bottom. I have a feeling that the fan might be spinning at very slow speed but I'm happy with it so I'm not going to take a look at it or anything. You can try it if you want but watch the temperature! I would recommend to try and play games on the setting "off" Well, what I would do is, switch it on auto mode and turn up the volume of the game so it doesn't bother me. ;)

BTW: Great job noda! Thanks a lot for your work!
