AA1 was unable to start after a fall accident. No contact with HDD. Tried Acer Support but rejected from warranty, HDD destroyed from accident, claimed more than $200 for repair.
Disassembeled the machine with good help from forum.
Bought a new HDD 250 Gbyte. RAM the originale 512. Assembly followed the same forum advices.
Installed from the very beginning. Worked fine for a while. After a re-boot due to update services the screen went black.
This forum helped by instructions of how to make a USB flash unit to work for update of BIOS. Thanks people!

The AA1 is now back to life working fine running XP Home, OpenOffice, etc. Uses are net surfing, easy games and a little work.

Glad you got it working again.
    Tech support is usually worthless.
One Acer tech told the owner of a D150 to install a Bios for an A150 which bricked the machine.
I have usually found all the help I've needed for any problems on forums like these.

Thanks to all the people who post and know how to keep our machines running. Even if I don't say it enough.

Yeah I dont say it enough but their are some genius people that post in the Hardware Hacks forum on here, doing stuff that I would have no clue how to do but thankfully they have a guide, which has got my Aspire one overclocked and more.

Reguarding the warranty, my parents kept wanting me to find a laptop/netbook with a good warrenty, and nowadays warranty is BS, Im very glad and thankful that my aspire one is built good with good quality stuff, never had a single issue out of it, and I will prolly be an Acer guy for life. Going off to college in 2010 and Ill be getting a new Acer laptop to compliment my One.
