Well first of all I would like to thank those, which assisted me.
I have an Aspire One 110-1722, which came with http://www.linpus.com/
Operating system restore disk did not work much like their site.

I latter went to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and on my XP computer chose
Linux mint http://linuxmint.com/ though I really loved it Linux mint was not able to get me on WIFI perhaps because the following was not supported

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
04:00.0 System peripheral: JMicron Technologies, Inc. SD/MMC Host Controller

    But the Ethernet was.

I latter went back to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
    And chose http://fedoraproject.org/

Honestly if I had a choice between .rpm or .deb I’m going for the .deb so if linux mint finds a way to get the above mentioned hardware to work I’ll be back to them but Fedora has been thus far better than I had heard tell I was tempted to try http://www.debian.org/
But going on the words (though somewhat condescending) while in a forum in regards to Mint verses Fedora in regards to WIFI connectivity I opted for less experimentation. So now I am online and so far doing fine.
For fellow new bees to linux like myself this site was helpful in directing me around http://www.linuxquestions.org/

As the one bellow can be of great benefit for self help through reading:

I had many problems with many linux version, as the wireless wouldnt work any other os; jaunty ubuntu netbook remix, kuki remix etc.

So Im having to go back to bloody limpuss

Hope it works now. reinstalling as I write this.

I also had the above problems getting the USB install to work. Mine would crash at the choose partition option as there was none there and it would always crash and restart at that point. It was fomatted via the BIOS cd restart options as describbed in the booklet. If you formatted your own hard drive then your an idiot! its not difficult to do properly but it just doesnt work.

But I have mananged to get it installing correctly via an external usb cd drive.

guys did anyone fix this? I have the same problem? Is it because Acer provided us with the HDD recovery iso? If so where do we download the SD version?
Seems to be quite a common problem for SD users wanting to install linpus lite... VERY ANNOYING!

I have a similar problem. I can't restore from the Acer Aspire One recovery CD or other versions of Linux on a USB stick.

With the USB stick, it either won't recognise the device as bootable media, or it gets stuck at the splash screen. I got similar results from an iso of the new version of Linpus Lite based on Moblin and from the latest version of Ububtu.

With the recovery CD, the external drive is visible to the BIOS and the drive spins up as if it is about to boot, but then it just boots from the HDD instead. It then loads the pre-existing (broken) Linpus Lite OS.
Of course, this is not a problem with a faulty disk, because I was able to run it on my PC to create a usb boot disk.

The reason I am trying to reinstall Linpus Lite is that the desktop failed after a Live Update. I have basic features operable on the desktop, but most essentail features like the file manager aren't loaded so it's impossible to execute applications. At the same time as the Live Update, I think I may also have been installing what was supposed to be a Bios fix to enable different screen resolutions (as far as I can remember). Thinking about it now, I don't understand how it's even possible to modify the BIOS from a downloaded piece of software without flashing the BIOS chip itself. Probably this has nothing to do with the booting problem, but I just thought I would mention it in case anyone else has identified this as a potential cause.

Incidentally, I don't think people should get hung up on Unebootin. Unebootin itself states that booting Linpus Lite from a Unebootin iso file won't work. As has been said, if you can't even boot from the recovery CD, then the problem we are discussing in this thread must be caused by something else, but to avoid confusion I would use an alternative method than Unebootin for creating iso files. In any event, I am still totally stuck and I hope someone can solve this problem soon.

I also hope someone will come out with a fix as I'm stuck with a laptop that can't get past the bios lol.(unless I put xp on it). I might consider buying a iPod hdd off eBay and replacing the ssd so the aspire one will be able to run xp smoothly. I've been stuck with the problem of not being able to get linpus back on for some time now. Seems such. Waste of a great little machine.

I installed Windows XP from an external CD drive. I also tried subsequently to reinstall Linpus Light from the recovery disk and that didn't work.

I am starting to wonder if the Acer Aspire One recovery disk is actually a DVD rather than a CD and that is why I can't boot from it. It just keeps spinning up in the drive. I had a similar issue with a Windows XP service pack 2 disk. :?:

I downloaded an .iso file for Ubuntu 9.04 and the file size was slightly larger than a CD, so that wasn't an option even with a CD drive and a blank CDR available.

Finally I installed Ububtu 9.04 (Netbook remix) on a USB stick from the following link and it works extremely well, even on the 512MB RAM Acer Aspire One ZG5, unlike Windows XP.

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook

You just have to download an .img file from the Ubuntu site and use another application called Win32DiskImager to write it to your flash drive.

    H Guys,
I've had the same problem. In my case Linpus stopped working one day (got stuck part way during boot and caps lock button flashing).
So I tried to re-install with a high quality external DVD drive. The re-install procedure got stuck.
Then I created a bootable USB stick (2 GB). Got exactly the same results (re-install process got stuck).

So, I downloaded Ubuntu Netbook Remix, made a bootable USB key. That worked, both running Ubuntu from the USB key and installing USB on the AAO.
So at least I know the hardware is working - I had started to get worried that something had gone wrong.

But I still can't get the Linpus to re-install - as before, the install procedure gets stuck part way through.

I guess I'll carry on with Ubuntu until someone (or Acer) figure out a solution.
