AAO ZG5 Touchpad

    My touchpad has started acting up.
    When just on battery, all works fine.
    When I plug in the power cord and turn on the switch to the power adaptor, the battery charges, but the touchpad is very, very sluggish, or won't work at all. However, this only happens if the computer is sitting flat on the desk. If I pick it up and put it on my lap, it behaves properly. If I put it back on the desk - sluggish again! If I then turn off the power at the wall, all is OK again!
    Finally, a USB mouse works correctly in all of the above situations.
    I've updated the Synaptics Drivers.
    Anybody have any ideas?
