    Hi All,

Acer has absurd price differences worldwide :

AAO model with WinXP Home, 1 GB RAM and 120 HDD and 3 cell battery is around US $ 350 in USA.

In India, the same model is available at Rs. 24,000; that is, US $ 550.

Acer, why the absurd price difference ?

It is defnitely cheaper in the US, don't know why or if they use cheaper components or what? $350 is almost the price of the 8GB SSD Linux one here in Malaysia, which, after the price drop, is now about US$340.

    I paid £229 (british pounds) which equates to @ $407 (us dollars). That's for a Linux AAO150.

Acer is over-charging other countries users to subsidize the USA market.

Seems to me that in europe the price everywhere is 299€/349€/399€.

I wonder whether it would be possible to order one from canada (a150x is 350$ = 240€) and then (in my case) replace the keyboard with a german one?
But i bet the customs will add taxes.

    Yup.

I'm not surprised that US prices are lower - most IT stuff seems cheaper in the USA.

However, are we comparing the prices after all taxes here? 17.5% going to the taxman makes a bit of a difference; what tax rate is included in the US prices quoted?

If the $329 quoted for the basic model is before sales taxes, convert it to Sterling at 1.78 (which is sadly where we now are), and add 17.5% VAT and you get £217, which isn't far out.....

I've noticed this too. The Asus machines seem to be twice as expensive here in the USA.

Acer is far cheaper. And better in my opinion.

Anyone planning to get AA1 should do so now while current stocks are available...the exchange rate is favoring the us dollar right now and as the uk and eurozone gets hit by the 'downturn'...all imports will be costing more...so that the next lot of stock from the US will probably see pricing go UP NOT DOWN...unless those kind ppl at Acer take pity on us over the pond and start discouting....unlikely

Yes you have to factor in the taxes local and import duties/levy which all countries have to protect their own manufactured goods...although the last time the uk had a computer manufacturer was...ummm Clive Sinclair? like 2 decades ago.... or maybe Alan Sugar and Amstrad?
