Time was when "portable" meant it had a handle. :-D

Just received eXpansys travel charger for Aspire One and am very impressed. Much better than standard supplied charger as mains cord is eliminated making it more portable and reducing weight by almost half. Comes complete with 4 changeable pinouts for use all around the world and of course is auto voltage switching 100-220v input and 19v 1.6A out. Got mine from Amazon for £19.99 plus carriage but also available via expansys.com. Just don't know why Acer can't supply these as standard on such a portable machine! Attention to detail is important IMHO, you only have to look at a Macbook charger to see that.

Yep! Looks to be the same one. Don't forget import duty and VAT will most probably have to be paid if importing to ripoff Britain, bringing the price back up to around £20. Still you might save a few green shields.

Good point jellybean though it may be below the limit (I'm no expert so don't take my word for it) Roger

hmm.. I just received this adapter (from brando) and it does not work properly...
Basically, when I plug it in (UK mains) the led lights up, looks OK.
But when it's plugged into the Aspire the supply seems like it goes on...off...on...off...
The backlight goes on and off, as does the green led :(
Does anyone know if this is because it's an imported one, or should it work?
    Best, -Duncan.

Brando just emailed me and said they would send a replacement :)
(seems like they take customer service seriously!)
Sounds like it was just a duff one... I'll mail back here when I get the new adapter.

I received the Brando Travel Charger yesterday. The adapter itself was larger than I expected, but it is still a big improvement compared to the bulk of the packaged Acer adapter. I don't know why Acer didn't choose to go this route instead. The bulkiness of the cables that come with the included adapter was one of my few gripes with the AA1. Thankfully, this new charger fixes that problem.

Shipping was fast too. Shipped on 9/10, arrived here in NYC on 9/16.

I'm considering ordering the Dell AC Power Wall Plug for Inspiron & Latitude Laptops. For about $5, it'll eliminate the mains power cord and give me the light-weight portability for AC power. :)

I've never ordered from here, but thought I'd post the link. Might keep shopping and see if I can get it directly from Dell.

Any DC adapter that can put out between 12 and 20 volts DC with enough amps to provide about 30-40 watts will work. This explains why a car adapter works fine - car power is between 12 and 15 volts, but with up to (generally) 10 amps on a power socket/cigarette lighter/

I just cut the tail off an old Dell 20v 4.5amp supply and soldered on a socket that fits the AA1, and it works no problems. Better than throwing out the old Dell adapter, that's for sure!

Replacement adapter arrived today and works fine.
Very impressed with Brando's level of customer support.
Sent a replacement immediately with no quibbles and rapid/effective email exchanges.
If only retailers in the UK were so courteous!

Tell me if this sounds silly: I already have a car charger for my AAO, but I'm wondering if, as a less bulky travel solution, there's an adapter to go from car charger to AC adapter. I've found things like this on obscure cellphone sites, but I'm wondering if that'll work properly with something bigger than a cellphone like the AAO. I'd rather not experiment with something that'd short out the laptop.

Would this charge the AAO fine through a wall outlet, or would I need some other piece of equipment to go from car adapter to wall outlet?

/EDIT: It looks like this only provides 500 mA, while the default charger requires 1.6A. Anything above 1000mA or so seems to require a brick, which makes the entire venture kind of pointless. Ah well.

Does anyone know what Targus tip can be used with AAO or at least mention another common computer that takes the same tip? I have an older Targus power supply that is flat and fits in my case better then the stock one. The Targus site doedn't mention the AAO and the sight also mentions if it's not listed it's not supported which BS when comes to a tip.

    Thanks
