I just tried to add this to my cart and checkout when I get "Recipient is unavailable to receive money" error. Any luck with Dell?

Your welcome, mine just got shipped...

    Update:
Got my plug 2day, and it works and looks perfect with the power brick. It hungs the brick with no problem when pluged into the wall socket, and looks like it was meant to be, and not just a add on... Makes it much easier to take a long with the Acer...

P.S. the plug is the same thickness and width as the power brick....

If this plug works, why doesn't Acer just provide it instead of the small brick we ended up with?

You still need the brick - this just replaces the 6ft cord that is way too long.

Did anyone find a similar power plug with EU connector? A Dell part is fine, but the eBay listing is a US plug.

I bougth the 8J508 3-prong duckhead from eBay. It fits the adapter quite well. See picture.

Well, since I was a bit fed up with this ugly heavy chunky cable provided by Acer, I took my dremel out and modified a standard 2-prong cable.

    Works just fine.

Sbm that is not electrically a good idea as it removes the ground from the circuit. It will work until something goes wrong and then it MAY cause more damage than it would had the ground been left connected.

Well, some of my electronic equipment have a ground plug and some don't. So I don't think it should make a big difference with such low specifications (220V / 1A input, 19V / 1,58A output). Besides, a lot of netbooks have a 2-prong power unit, so go figure...

I might be wrong though, but I'll need explanations then as to why it's not a good idea...

I bought the Dell plug as well and it's been working great.

I was wondering though, are there different revisions of the power adapter? In ovaltines picture there is a ferrite bead, while mine doesn't.

Also about the grounding. I don't know if it applies for this laptop, but with my last laptop (Dell 9300) there were some problems where you could get a small shock from the laptop which was caused by the lack of a ground which could also damage components.

There are three manufacturers of the adapter. Mine is a Delta one. There are also Lite-On and Hi-Pro. Maybe there is some difference among the three.

Great idea! I am also going to do this with the shortest cable i can find. In my dorm there are no wall outlets with ground anyway except in the kitchen.

When they design a device and use a 2 prong plug the use special materials and circuit layout that makes things work with the 2 prong plug. The same is true for when they build for a 3 prong plug, BUT they are different and when you change the design by removing one prong then you bypass the design circuity endangering the device, your self and void the warranty.
