I just picked up the 1GB model with the HD at Microcenter in Fairfax, VA. They had 89 on hand (blue) and I purchased the first. They have them for $399! Go to http://www.microcenter.com and order 2-5 day shipping! I will take pictures of mine tonight, it's setting up XP now.

Ok, I haven't opened the unit yet I don't plan to until tonight however the case dimensions look exactly the same as the Linux 512MB SSD model. There wasn't a lot of bloat ware on the XP version (McAfee, Yahoo Toolbar, MS Office Student, Wordperfect) and it's running XP SP3 so there weren't many updates to apply. The initial boot took about 30 minutes for all the pre-installed software to configure. There's no media CD included so make a backup. I'll be configuring this for dual-boot with Gentoo so I don't plan on wiping the XP install. The HD lists as 105GB with about 6GB used after initial boot. That's the quick and dirty I'll update more later tonight. If anyone has anything specific like the ZIF , PATA, SATA connector and RAM configurations please let me know and I'll update as soon as I can.

mediapirate, if you are going to open up the case, please check if it's 512MB soldered + 512MB module or 1GB soldered + empty slot.

    Thanks.

    Hong.

I can save mediapirate some time with the screwdriver: its going to be 512 + 512. I can tell you that as the 1GB models are listed as having 1 DIMM slot (0 free).

David: What prohibits you from buying one in the states and having it shipped over?

RJM: You are correct 512Mb soldered and 512Mb stick.

I just about have Gentoo installed all of the hardware is working with minimal work. The fan is noisy though, I'm going to see if I can fix that today but other than that its an amazing device. They keyboard is small and when you lay your hands on it you'll have the impression there's difficult typing ahead but that's not the case. I have fairly large hands and I'm used to the fluid keyboard strokes on my MBP, that being said I have no problem speed typing on this device.

The battery is horrible yes it's the 2200, so far it's only lasted 2hrs under normal use. I'm not sure what implications I'll face by running under linux but historically there's no benefit.

The screen is amazing, I had time to use it out doors yesterday without issue. It wasn't full daylight as I didn't get home until 6pm but non the less the screen was clearly visible. I think the resolution is perfect and luckily I have found no dead pixels.

I'll keep updating as I spend more time with the Acer One but at this point I consider it a useful device.

Could you check it's really 249x170x29mm ? I've heard the case would be 195mm deep for the HDD models and 36mm high, so I'm a bit confused...

sounds like the 6 cell battery to me. I think as long as you use the small battery, the cases would be the same size.

Mmmhhh... You might be right, indeed. Still, since mediapirate owns one, it would be nice to know for sure. Can you provide measurements, please ? :)

    AOA150-1570 is blue
    AOA150-1006 is white.

I wish Buy.com will ship my white AA1 soon!

I can confirm that Microcenter and Circuit City are only stocking the Blue units right now. So, you can be assured the unit you'll be getting is Blue. I don't mind the color it's not a questionable blue....

I just finished upgrading to 1.5GB ram and noticed a few things as well as taking high res pictures of the process. If anyone wants the pictures to post let me know and I'll send them to you. The easy access door under this unit doesn't have a PCI-E connect as the 512mb 8Gb SSD models. When I removed the two screws I noticed the connect wasn't there so I guess this model isn't upgradable to 3G / WIMAX using the extra slot. I believe the 512's have the extra slot for adding another card...thats a let down but WiMax will be here soon so I'll remove the wifi card and swap. I took close shots of the HD, memory chipsets etc so please feel free to message me for photos. I don't have a photoshack site to post them and share online but I'm sure someone else can.

Hi mediapirate, I would like to know how much noise does the HDD makes? Is it silent enough for use in a library, etc? thanks!

The HD is silent but the fan is annoyingly noisy. Here are the pictures.

I picked up my AA1 last night from Circuit City and they had all the colors available (a LOT of them too). However, these are not the hdd models.

the hard drive is SATA, right? I seem to recall reading that.

I picked up a 250gb SATA laptop drive on slickdeals yesterday for like $60 after rebate :)
