I also just got mine with the 120GB HDD. :D
The hard disk is plenty quiet...and I can't hear the fan at all if there's any background noise...but when it's completely silent it can be a little annoying. Just put some music on or something and you can't even tell it has a fan though. I already love this thing

Well that was short lived! My One just died, I was rebooting the netbook and the screen never came on. I tried an external monitor, removing the battery, it's officially dead. I'm going to Microcenter to swap, I think there was a cooling issue with my fan as it was noice since the get-go. I read there was another user with a power supply failure on the gentoo forums so I hope this isn't a ongoing hardware problem for Acer.

    What's the speaker quality like?

I have a Eee 701 now, and I find the speakers great. I read somewhere the speakers on the Acer weren't very good, but I'm not sure if they are meaning in general - all netbook speakers are going to be small & not produce a great sound, but I'd like some confirmation as I use it mainly as a music player.

I can't wait for our stores to get the XP version in so I can go have a look.

Is the weight of the XP version much more than the Linux one? The acer website only offers one weight for both models, but I'd assume the hdd would add some weight ?? It still has the 3 cell battery right? That doesn't bother me. I'd actually prefer less weight than a bigger battery. :D

    Thanks.

I thought Dell was going to be announcing their netbook today but they didn't so it looks like I may be picking up one of these. Just to confirm, the 6 cell battery is only getting about 2 or so hours of life?

I ordered it from CDW, but I know someone else had ordered one the day after me, and it didn't go through. Microcenter still has them as far as I know, and I believe Circuit City is starting to get them in as well.

As to the battery, yes the XP still comes with 3 cell. I'm getting between 2.5 and 3 hours on that. I haven't timed it exactly yet though. And the speakers are decent. I can hear everything just fine as long as it's not super loud in the room, and that's without even turning them up all the way yet. Just don't expect them to work as some kind of stereo system or anything like that.

To everyone who has said that Circuit City has the WinXP model, in what areas do you live?

CircuitCity.com is still only showing the Linux model, and the Circuit City in my area (South Florida) only had the Linux model when I was in there the other day. I purchased the Linux model because I didn't know about the WinXP model, but I haven't opened the box yet. If they will be getting the WinXP model soon, I'll gladly return this one and pay the extra $20 for the WinXP model.

Circuit City only has the 8gb Linux model for $379.

Microcenter.com has that and the $399 120gb, 1gb RAM, XP model. They also have a few stores, there's one in my area in Houston where I got to try out both models. They have the blue color with 3 cell battery.

I'm playing it safe at this point as Microcenter just replaced my dead One. I'm going to leave XP running on it and measure the temps for the next few days as I find it odd that the other one just died. It's possible that unit had a defect because the fan was louder than this replacement but as I said, I'm playing it safe. Ugh... XP :-(

I picked one up at Microcenter tonight, and I am very pleased with it so far. I am able to type with both hands, only making a few typos here and there. They did not have a XP model on display yet, so I was only able to play with the Linux version in store. I played with the Eee PC's with XP a little to see how it might be, but I was excited enough about this little computer that I picked one up mostly based upon the feedback on it so far.

Upon powering it up for the first time, I was using only battery power and found it had a 87% charge by the time Windows was done doing its pre setup first time boot up. Also has a few things pre installed, Yahoo tool bar and Mcafee being the two programs I removed instantly. On the plus side of things, it does have SP3 pre installed, one less update to deal with when you first start.

Performance is decent. I could probably still change/remove a few things to make it run a little bit better, but I'm going to be getting a double boot with Ubuntu going pretty soon anyways. All I've done so far is replacing McAfee with Avast! and installing Firefox 3, Skype, and Open Office. The start up time is actually fairly fast now that I removed McAfee.

They don't have the 512MB 120GB HDD version available in the US :(
I don't know if I'll even bother to upgrade the RAM though so it's fine having it start with 1GB I guess.

After weeks of waiting i finally got the Aspire One i wanted to buy (and the 120gb/1gb is worth all the waiting ;) ).
I really dont see what those battery complains are all about, since i got a good 2.36 running XP out of it. Heck.. thats like twice of my 17" Sony Vaio AR series.

After tweaking XP a bit its now booting in 51 seconds.... well impressive!!!!
The only complain i have about my new little friend, is that he's a noisy bugger.
Guess i am just a bit unlucky.

OP, just to make sure, the One you got from Micro Centre is the 3 cell version right? The one that doesn't stick out far?

    Thanks
