    Hello,

Purchased a blue Acer Aspire One 10" with 160GB 1GB RAM and won the battery lottery with a 5800mah version. Firmware 1.02

    Upgraded with:
    Western Digital Blue 500GB SATA
    Gigabyte AirCruiser N300 GN-WS30N-RH for 802.11n
    2GB 667 Crucial Memory

    Partitioned Drives:
C: 20GB for Programs and OS
    D: Rest for data

Installed Vista 7 build 7048. Installed without a problem most drivers found -- had to install the Gigabyte from flash drive. Works great, relatively fast booting.

Flashed to BIOS 1.05 (held my breath). Flashed OK.

Getting acqainted with this little hotrod and I'm liking it! Nice computer for fun and media.

    Thanks for reading!

I bought the same machine myself (D150-1165), with same battery. I upgraded to 2GB 667mhz Kingston RAM , added IO Gear USB Bluetooth (sticks out of USB slot MAYBE 3/4 of a centimeter), dual booting XP Pro and Vista Ultimate x32, using the card reader with a 2GB SD card for ReadyBoost (actually makes a difference!) am now debating a hard drive upgrade...

I've got two that I am looking at:

    Seagate 320GB @ 7200RPM w/ 16MB Cache

    or

    Seagate 500GB @ 5400RPM w/ 8MB cache.

$8 more for the 500GB but I think the extra speed would be helpful.

I have made a FULL backup of the hard drive onto an external USB drive that I have, but, am debating now whether or not to use said backup to restore onto the new drive, or just load from the ground up and run just Vista Ultimate x32.

I'm shocked at how well this little machine handles everything that I've thrown at it - I'm strongly leaning towards the 7200RPM drive though for the extra speed.

I went during lunch today and picked up the Seagate 320 with 16MB cache and 7200 RPM - seems to be making a nice increase in speed!

Update - increase in speed under Vista was not quite enough to justify the existence of Vista on this mini-machine, but, WOW, what an impressive performance boost in WinXP Pro and Home !

Vista was just too memory and CPU intensive for this little box to keep up with it. Sure - doing one thing at a time was OK, but, anything more than that became a chore.

I installed Vista with SP1 slipstreamed into it and it ran nicely until I installed all the drivers and Windows Updates. That's when it became a snail.

So - I'll be waiting until Windows 7 Netbook Edition comes out to do anything Microsoft other than XP Home/Pro. Until then I may install another partition with a netbook optimized Linux load.

How much was the Wireless N card - where I go to college we have wireless N and I'd like to take advantage of that. It is my understanding that most wireless cards have 3 antenna wires - does the aod 150 have 3 antenna wires?

Also, are these machines 64 bit capable? I ran vista 64 on an N230 Atom mini itx box and it ran pretty well.

Interesting that you ran Vista 64 on that.

Can anyone else confirm whether or not it's 64 bit compatible?

This was a mini itx pc that ran 64bit with the N230. There might be other things in the way on an AAO..

Anyone know if a 3 wire card will work on the 2 wires in the AOD 150?

The 3 wire card will work, fine with wires 1 and 2 plugged in. If you want N, you would have route the antenna in.

I am trying out the acer one D150 for our school. I have seen that at least a couple of you have upgraded to XP Pro. We want to use these with our Foreign Language software which runs off our Windows server 2003 network. Obviously the XP Home will not connect to the domain on the server. Could you post the step by step directions on how you installed XP Pro on the D150? If we can get this to see our network domain on our server, we plan to get a classroom set with a wireless access point to move from one foreigh language classroom to another. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.
