acer aspire L5100 RE-FORMAT PROBLEMS

I AM AFTER SOME HELP ,REFORMATED MY HARD DRIVE,(REMOVED PARTITION WITH BACK UP) INSTALLED WINDOWS 7IT WENT THROUGH OK BUT ON RE-BOOT COMES UP WITH VERIFYING POOL DATA AND JUST SITS THERE,TRYED RE-INSTALLING VISTA ONLY THE SAME HAPPENS AGAIN,BUT IT WILL LET ME INSTALL XP FINE WHY IS THIS PLEASE,AS I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO VISTA AT LEAST BUT MOST OF ALL I WOULD LOVE WINDOWS 7
