Acer Aspire One and DVD

    I have Acer Aspire One 10.1" with VLC and external drive.
    Will my grandson be able to play his DVDs on this AAO using the external drive and VLC?
    Will it be hard to do? He inserted DVD in the external drive, but nothing came on the screen. Maybe he has to open VLC program and then click on something else in order for DVD to play? '
    Or will the AAO or Targus or VLC only play certain types of DVD?
    Or will my grandson not be able to play DVDs on his AAO?
    Please advise and thank you.

    P.S. I just tried another DVD and the pop-up screen appeared asking me how I wished to play the DVD and I clicked VLC and the video began to play. Why would this DVD play and not the other two? Confusing!
