Finally I found the calibration tool embedded in Win 7

The only problem is that i cannot use built-in drivers because even if I do the 4-point calibration (the first one, the second one is impossible to do, I don't manage to do it!) the touchscreen in unusable, because the X/Y axes are inverted!

The point of calibration is to correct X/Y axes being inverted.

    Which is the first?
    Why is the second Impossible?
    What is the "Second"?

Be aware that during calibration you hold the flashing "X" until it stops flashing, some people have luck with drawing a small circle around the flashing "X". The point is don't lift your finger off the screen until the calibration utility accepts that point.

windows built-in calibration tool is composed of two calibrations:
the first one is a 16-point calibration (4 for each corner) and I can do this ==>> I think is for the recogniziation of the touch by the driver
the second one is a 4-pint calibration and i cannot do it because the touch is not recognized. I managed to finish it only one time (touching points next to the "+") but the touch had alteady x/y axes inverted :(

I remember I had to reboot for Windows 7 to work properly. Try rebooting after the first calibration.

Can you do flick like scrolling with a touch screen instead of using the scroll bar on the right of the screen? I saw it on one youtube video, but all of the other aspire one videos were using the scroll bar. If you could do flick scrolling, I'd definitely want to do this. Anyone'? Thanks!

It comes as a extra cable with small 5 pin plug on one end and full size usb plug on the other end. Look for kits where the cable is pictured in the ad.

I got a TS kit. I have major doubts right from the start. The Pin powering the Webcam by default is 5 pin. The controller had one with 5 Pins stating USB in and a 4 pin for the TS.

Now, the seller has shipped me a 4 Pin cable connected to a 5 pin USB1 slot in the controller. This I am guessing should go to the webcam! But how will it power it? compatibility issues?

Now I dont have the TS as well as the webcam. Please advice? I disconnected the webcam cable and connected only the TS to the controller. Still nothing! I am running Windows 7 RTM on it.

    Yippeee!!! :D :D :D :D

I got my touch kit installed. Contacted the seller and he informed me that the Solderless Touch Screen KIT is not totally Solderless and that I can solder it the way i want!! I jus soldered the free USB line from the previously installed HUB to the controller and took the out to the touch panel and vola!!! :p :p

I am extremely happy with the mod. I also encountered the overtightening issue, though I din't end up breaking anything.

I got my kit from this ebay seller - reganneville

After several months of regularly and enviously checking this thread I have eventually decided to buy the solderless touchscreen kit. But I am so scared of dismantling my brand new 3G enabled A150X that I am also going to buy a refurbed or used A110L to do the touchscreen mod on. If it works, I'll resell the laptop then by another kit and install it on my own AA1. Which leads me to the following questions:

    - Can I do the mod on the A150 with integrated 3G, or will there be a lack of USB ports at some point?
-Are the touchscreen and drivers now fully working in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (I am dual booting it with XP but would rather have the screen working in both OSes)

    Cheers guys.

I do this mod in 45 minutes after having done 5 of them. I solder the USB source to CN11 and place the controller/hub on top of the hard drive (which leaves 3 available USB ports on the hub). The 3G Aspire One has an alumimum cover over the hard drive which makes attaching the controller/hub with doublesided heatsink tape very clean and simple. 3G model is the same as all other Aspire Ones as to available USB ports.

I would go for doing the mod on your 3G model.

Be aware that flexible plastic touch screens are now being shipped by at least one supplier, see; http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=75176&p=1

I bought mine there: http://cgi.ebay.com/8-9-Acer-Aspire...CI%2BIA%2BUA%2BFICS%2BUFI&otn=39&po=LVI&ps=54 and no mention of it being plastic, so fingers crossed...
Thank you for the advice. I am still not convinced I will straight away use my beloved new A150X-3G as a guinea pig, but i might change my mind once I've checked the kit and the instructions.
You mentioned soldering - do i really have to do any? got me scared now...
Also you say you've fitted 5 AA1s. Do you do this as a business? If so, are you in the UK?

    cheers

The kit is solderless, but it has three disadvantages 1) You use an extra USB port on the hub. 2) The hub runs off 3 volts instead of 5 volts. 3) You have to run two wires behind the screen to connect into the camera plug.

Installing the solderless kit by soldering into CN11 eliminates the above disadvantages.

    Yes, I am in USA.

Shame you're not in the UK. I would have happily sent you my AA1 for the mod!

You would not happen to have a photo of the controller/usb hub installed on the AA1's HDD by any chance? I haven't opened my AA1 since I've swapped the ssd version for a hdd version, so I can't figure how I will fit the controller in there...

    Cheers.

I have just received my kit. It appears to be plastic rather than glass as you mentioned earlier, which makes it less fragile. Is that the reason why no screen shock absorbers were provided with it?

I would like to add bluetooth by using one of the available usb ports on the controller whilst the machine is open, I am looking at this on Ebay, will it be suitable? :

It will definitely connect into the touchscreen controller, but you can get cheaper ones and solder it to the USBs. Nano dongles cost like $3 or something and they are pretty good. I have a dongle made by "ENTER" and it costed me $6. Also please note that the Touchscreen Controller is already sipping power from CN11. More devices on this would make all of them unstable.

    My Setup:
    1. Soldered a 4 port hub to CN11.
    2. Connected BT, GPS & TS Controller to 3 of the 4 outs.
    3. Nothing except TS is connected to the TS Controller.

Still when I connect a External 2.5" HDD to the right side USB (powered by the daughter card), The TS disconnects sometimes under Win7. Possibly it is not able to handle the extra load. :geek:

I have TS hub with three USB devices, Finger print reader, Bluetooth, and USB WiFi card. But I did not use the power from CN11 because of the problem with losing the left external USB port. Instead I used power from another place on the motherboard. I also have ATSC tuner internal on 8th USB port.
