    Hey,

I'm mechanically inept and have poor motor skills, and I'm seeing several dozen posts by people who actually know what they're doing who say they've mangled the cables on this thing. I'm thinking I shouldn't get this thing. Am I right, or is there an easily way to avoid damaging the cables as so many people appear to do?

Trial and error... just trial and error

When the case or the bezel don't go on easy... don't force them... have a look at what's obstructing it and restart..
Always think ahead and question yourself "what if i put this cable like this... will it be pinched ?"

The touchscreen i bought had a very good manual... so it was done in jiffy (a one hour jiffy) ;-)

    Good luck...

I had a pinched cable that was preventing the webcam from being detected. Repositioning the cable helped as they just barely give you enough slack. Luckily, it wasn't a straight cut into the cable, but it seems to be working fine for the moment. I'll be keeping an eye on mine though, and it just goes to show that you'll need to exercise a little patience when re-assembling to ensure cables don't get snagged on things when everything is put back together, or when you open and close the lid.

It's weird that the latest BIOS didn't work with your touchscreen. I'm using 3308 (before then, 3304 and 3305) and it works fine.

Damn dude.. you've put the flat cable coming from the touchscreen through the hinges ?..
I suppose you like to live in danger :?: :p

I did the mod too, but i've put the connection with the flat cable 'behind' my LCD screen... and guided the much thinner ans less fragile controler cable through the hinges...

Also did i put the USB patchcable from the webcam through the right hinge...

Actually i did everything just like the manual, that came with the TS, told me to do.. everything was done in a jiffy.. and all is working fine now for almost a week :D

    Good phototutorial i must add..

Is there a certified US dealer where this kit can be purchased from. I can't seem to find the vendor here in the states other than the eBay storefront that appears to be in Asia. Link anyone?
    Thx,

    HELP!!!!

Okay, I'm an amateur and probably shouldn't have attempted this, but hopefully someone out there can help me before I take apart my Aspire one more time. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, I hope it's specific enough for someone to eventually help me out.

So I got the whole thing apart and back together, and found that both the webcam, the touchscreen, and the WiFi were not recognized by XP. Sounds to me like a USB problem....and who knows why the WiFi wasn't working.

I took it all apart, and found a break in the black wire of the USB cable that runs diagonally behind the LCD....I wasn't very careul in the right monitor hinge, because the wire broke there. I had my roommate solder the wire back together with a bit longer piece, and then put it all back together.

The WiFi wasn't working, but I reinstalled the driver and all of a sudden it worked...PHEW!

So..before I take all of this apart again..are the any ideas as to where else I should look for USB problems....or where I can buy some new cables..and what they are called. LOL.

    Thanks everyone. Happy Holidays.

    Jay

UPDATE: Okay, I've finally read the whole thread. I am going to assume it's a wire problem. Does anyone know where I can get another USB cable (the one that runs diagonally behind the LCD case)...or should I snip it all and re-wire/solder it just to make sure.

What am I looking for on the Device Manager? Can someone take a picture? I'm a bit confused as to what I should delete or be looking for to try to reset the USB controller.

    thanks!

Your Wifi is working now, right ?

It could be, that a cable is squeezed. Take all apart and check all the cables again. When you found the squeezed cable, then press it a little bit, so that the squeezed area is... mmmh... so that this area isn´t squeezed anymore :) Then put all together. But watch for squeezed cables. But before you put the the frame together, check all devices in your device manager, that all devices are recognized.

Normaly it´s not possible to broke the black thick cable. It´s only possible to squeeze this cable. But you can unsqueeze this one

Okay, I actually had it working!!! It's definitely a squeezed/split cable, as it worked when the lid was only at a certain angle....enough to let me know it DOES work. I'm going to try to track down a new USB cable and replace it completely.

ONE QUESTION - I noticed the tracking on the bottom edge of the screen was off....the only place on the whole thing. I read that this could be caused by a crack...but I was EXTREMELY careful, it is very well attached, and there are no visible scars or cracks. Might there be another reason or setting I need to look at?

OKAY - MY ONE GOOD PIECE OF ADVICE TO ANYONE ATTEMPTING THIS. The wires connecting the Webcam to the USB Module are very delicate. Many people have had difficulties because of broken or pinched wires - usually through the lid hinge. Before even connecing the wire, I would suggest wrapping it gently in electrical tape. I have pinched my wires, and will be re-splicing it using some shrip wrap for protection - I don't suggest this to anyone. lol

Man, I wish I read this last post before I installed mine!

I have an AAO 110L with Linpus.

The excact same thing happened to me. The camera USB cable got squeezed in the hinge and is now broken. Also, I managed to mess up the controller board by ripping the touch screen cables off the board. Now I have to solder them back on, or get a new board. Anyone here who had to solder these back on, and succeeded?

I tested the screen before putting the AAO back togethere again, and it worked nicely.

    One more thing:

I installed the drivers from the CD using setup.sh. I don't know if the driver install caused it, but now left click doesn't work for me. Neither left mousepad button nor tap on the mousepad. I really hope this is a software error, not something I broke in the motherboard... But since mousepad tap isn't working either, it smells like software. I tried to run setup.sh uninstall, didn't help.

    Stupid question:

Does it matter which cable goes where? Three of my cables broke loose.... I THINK I remember where to put the rest, but I'm absolutely not 100% sure...

Just did - I was fighting with it for hours to no avail, but your serverlayout code worked... I originally found it without the 'defaultlayout' and 'defaultscreen', which caused me to constantly boot into low res video mode. You are a lifesaver. This thing rocks my socks off.

I'm pretty sure now that this is a software problem in Linpus related driver mess for the touchpad and the touchscreen. On last startup, tapping the touchpad works for leftclick, but both click buttons are dead. In firefox 3, I don't get the hand icon when hovering a link, and I can't click anything, not even with touchpad tap.

My theory is that installing the driver for the touchscreen controller via the shell script caused some changes in the configuration/driver for the touchpad, related to clicking/touching the screen. Anyone with ideas?

I will experiment further with trying to find the configuration files for the touchpad.
