    Ordered mine from fido.

Got it in 2 days (to Florida).

Instructions where "iffy", box was lacking some of the rubber tape.

Took forever to install (the first time). Now I can do it in about 10 minutes.

Like others, I broke one of the wires leading to the controller board. Re-soldered. All is ok. Going to get some 3 minute epoxy, and pot the end with the wires, so this should ever be an issue again.

When I booted Vista ultimate, the digitizer was found during the boot, and the unit came up as a Tablet PC, and there was a tap screen keyboard on the log in screen. The orientation worked backwards (I tried reversing the connection with no luck), and also tried to calibrate using Vista (Vista would not find the unit during calibration). The issue was not resolved until I installed the drivers. Once the drivers where installed, the touchscreen worked with the correct orientation, but Vista no longer comes up as a tablet PC.

I was wondering if anyone it working in Vista Tablet PC mode?

    Joe

I ordered mine 4 days ago and received it today. Package was ok though a rubber band was missing (the one that you suppose to stick under the controller). I would have to agree with some of the previous posters about the fact the kit is neither fun nor easy. I would consider myself as a medium skilled person concerning electronic modding. The first problem I had is that the manual is really poor. It omits several needed steps without even describing what needs to be done. The major issue for my was the wire driving through the netbook (especially through the lcd hinges). I would really appreciated if the manual had included a detailed picture showing how the wires should be driven. After 2 hours, I finally got it all back together and the kit was working fine. The issues I have now are:
    1) I am really concerned about the "health" of all those wires that are passing through the hinges. I am afraid that some of them might broke after a few hundreds of open-close lid operations.
    2) I have the impression that the netbook runs hotter now (I suspected a short circuit but haven't seen any degradation in the battery life) especially the area where I rest my right hand (above the wifi card).
    3) The 2 extra usb ports are working with the bluetooth dongle but not with any usb stick I tried.
    4) For the HDD version of the aspire there is really very little room under the motherboard to fit anything. I put my controller in the empty compartment and tried to fit in there the two extra usb wires.

Overall, the touchscreen looks nice and works fine but the installation is rather complicated because of the poor manual and the too tight space inside the netbook.

Ordered the solder-in USB touchscreen from fidohub on ebay some time ago and it was working great...that is, until I decided Windows 7 might be fun. Now I can't get it to respond to anything.
In the touchkit software, I can't get the 4-point calibration, Linearization or Draw Test options to run. Either the buttons for them do nothing, or Touchkit freezes at "Reading Parameters" and then acts as though I'd never clicked anything. Also, under the Hardware tab, there is nothing under Controller Model or Firmware Version and the Hardware Setting button is inactive/gray.
The USB Touchscreen shows up in the Device Manager under Mice and other pointing devices as "USB Touchscreen Controller(Universal)" and says it's drivers are in order, too.
Very odd. Anyone have an idea on how to make it work?

Can anyone confirm if this kit from fidohub is in fact the "Saturn" controller? EETI makes two versions and only the Saturn is USB2.0. I've seen numerous reports that some USB devices won't work with this hub, and if they're selling the USB1.1 version that could very well be the reason.

    Thanks...

    Okie dokie!

We'll try my problem now! :)

Got the kit today from fido hub and had my one torn apart within half an hour of fedex coming to my door.

I installed a few other goodies at the same time, more ram, wireless N, and bluetooth on the usb hub that comes with the touchscreen.
Put it mostly back together and gave it a whirl. Everything works except the touchscreen.

I installed the drivers that came with it, then I installed newer drivers from eeti.com (ver. 5.0.1.5310)
Still the same nonsense, the mouse goes crazy, I can't even use my USB mouse when the TS is plugged in, it just goes nuts.
I took everything apart again just in case something was pinched, everything is hanging free and is not pinched or squeezed anywhere and no wires have fallen off.
My camera works, bluetooth works off the hub, touchscreen is crazy!

I thought I remembered reading that someone had to revert back to an older bios because he couldn't get it to work with the 3309 and I have been trying to flash it but I can't get the stupid USB stick to prepare properly with unetbootin.

Anyone have any other ideas, I'm getting pretty frustrated right now :(
I was really hoping I would be one of the ones to have a somewhat smooth install................

EDIT: I reverted the bios back to 3304 and it still exhibits the same behavior!
I can actually get through the 25 point calibration but after it is done the cursor goes completely haywire and I have to unplug the TS to do anything.

    @ Jpgirl

Make sure the bezel is not applying pressure on the screen. Check for anything which is bridging the gap on the edges of the screen, tape, glue, etc...

You may have to remove the screen and clean edges and test without reinstalling.

    Re:

My USB mouse was preventing the TS drivers from loading properly. Disable in device manager or by removing any other USB devices until the TS is set up.

I've also got my touchscreen solderless.
I have a lot of questions to you :D please give me satisfaction! :p

    1) Are the connections to be effectuated near the CAM? because:
    2) Into the AA1 the space is poor, the touch controller is under the MB BUT, aren't too short the wires?? they should go BACK the LCD screen, otherwise they're too shorts to put it into the corners!!
    3) Wich is the right orientation of the screen? The flat wires should stay to left or right?
    4) In the end... isn't the bi adhesive rubber too thick? i've tried with a doube-face tape, but it's too thin, and the touchscreen goes on the LCD screen, and into the center appear a "circular bubble", so need more distance but, doesn't interferes with the screen frame once mounted?

Sorry but NO guide was into the packgage.... only the connection scheme..

Ok so I tried removing the screen and all tape, I layed the ts flat on the LCD with nothing holding it and tried another calibration.
    Same deal.

So I completely uninstalled the drivers and software and rebooted.
Reinstalled software and did another calibration.
    It seems to work!!!
Now I just need to get it all back together without breaking anything!

    YAY!

    I'll try to help........\\

actually instead of trying to type this all out, \send me your email address and I'll send you the PDF, on second thought, did you get a cd with the kit?
If you did, look in the data directory and you will find the .pdf install guides in there.

If you didn't get a CD though let me know and I'll still email it to you.

EDIT: I just checked fidohub.com and they have the install pdf on their website...............

    http://www.fidohub.com/productfile/acerinstall.pdf

and the bi-adhesive rubber doesn't go on the LCD! It goes on the back of the controller board to stop it from shorting something (or itself ) out on any metal parts inside the case!
use a very thin double sided tape to fix the touchscreen to the lcd, and don't use too much in case you need to adjust or remove it. Think scotch tape but sticky on both sides.
ANd the thin rubber strips they give you are to be used BESIDe the touchscreen, not on top of it. They stop the bezel from pressing too hard on the touchscreen film.

The wires are long enough to go where they need to go, the only one that I found was 'just' long enough was the one that goes through the left side hinge by the power connector, all of the others were plenty long enough.

....but if i use thin bi-adhesive, the touch screen make "contact" with the LCD, and you see the difference from the corners area (like a crushed drop of water between the two screens)

    ....like this, at the center:

is that an actual picture of your touchscreen?

I don't know why it would look like that unless your LCD is wet or if the back of the touchscreen is sticky.
Did you take both protective films off the touchscreen, there is one on each side.

You don't want a gap between your LCD and the touchscreen, if you have a gap there, you are at higher risk for it cracking, you need the LCD directly under the TS to 'support" it.
