    Many thanx for your help!!!

i think i will take the +5v from the external USB port, no problems with total power consumption (if i have problems with external peripheals, i'll switch to another USB port) like in the pics in THIS TOPIC

So the +5v corresponds to the red wire.....

well i got my touchscreen installed but it turns out that my controller board is knackered, as soon as i start to use the touchscreen the board dies and uninstalls/reinstalls, i have checked all of the wires for breaks and they are fine but the seller is sending another controller board so hopefully i'll be up and running soon. i have put up some pics and a short vid (the pics and vid were to show the problems to the seller, as pics and vids easily cover the language divide :D ) here >> http://freespace.virgin.net/catherine.s ... uchscreen/ has anyone else had problems with the controller board?

hi! 1st post here. i have a white A110L since few days (169 euro in offer in italy), i put +1gb ram and im thinking to ad a 4200rpm zif hd, cos sata connector needs some solders..

can you tell me the best kit for this netbook? on ebay i see different kits, one with the pen too. another says its controller is better cos it has more layers on the pcb... so just tell me what you would buy now!

did you see some models have the open round in the bottom, in others it's closed ?

then i read the solderless kit gives some problems about current drain?? or the screen slide down sometimes? pls tell me if it's a good idea, i'd like it, but it's just a gadget.. i don't need many usb - now i think so- but tell me as more as possible about it ;)

i'm not usually one to panic but the guy i bought my touchscreen kit from is no longer a registered ebay user  so i'm starting to think my replacement may not be forthcoming, i hope i'm wrong but to be on the safe side i decided to look at why my controller board might not be working properly, and after 2 mins under the magnifying glass (i don't have the best eyesight lol) i can see why it doesn't work properly, i have a busted diode as shown in this pic

(click on the pic to see the full size image)

here's another pic to show it's position on the board
(again click on the pic for the full size image)

i think i have the skills to replace this small part but as it's damaged i don't know what the full markings are so i can't go trying to figure out what i need to replace it with, so i was wondering if someone who has the toptouchscreen kit could let me know exactly what the markings are on this part, it would be very much appreciated and it will get you some good karma with the gadget gods

I received my kit today and plan on installing it this weekend, so I'll need every bit of good karma I can get. :D

I probably bought mine from the same guy. The same day he disappeared from ebay I got an email from him explaining that he didn't have a clue of why he had been kicked out. He said he had been trying to reach some ebay officials in Hongkong for an explanation but had not succeeded in doing so. Anyway, I got mine today, and I'm sure you'll get your replacement screen too.

Here's a (crappy, I know, sorry about that) photo (rotated 180° compared to your photos) of that component on my board. All I can make out is "5AG>", or possibly "5A6>". I have no idea what that means, but perhaps you have a better understanding of electronics than I do and can make some sense out of it.

thanks so much for the pics and info stewed, it's very much appreciated! may the gadget gods give you a steady hand and an easy mod lol  one thing i notice is that it's a different value that's on my D3 but the same as what's on my D5 and D6, may i bother you again to ask what the values are on your D5 and D6?

Of course. Here's the entire board in a little bit better quality than the last shot:

thank you very much again stewed, you have been most helpful to me  one thing i notice in your pic is that your D5 looks to be missing some silicone too  hopefully this won't effect it's operation. i get the feeling that our seller has been buying the factory reject boards, as he claimed to test all items before sending but at least with my one he couldn't have or he would have came across the same problems as me. anyway again thanks and if i can help in any way with your touchscreen install don't hesitate to ask :)

    Hmm, that's worrying...

Anyway, toptouchscreen is back on ebay now. I got an email from him explaining that ebay was to blame and that they had blocked his account by mistake.

Does anyone knows if I will be able to replace it? The damage must have done during the transport!
I didn't try it but I am sure that it won't work as the scratch is from the one side to the other. Am I right?

Hi, I was just wondering is how is the view quality of the touch screen?
I have installed mine few days ago, the touch and all is working great however there is a huge degradation in view.
I am seeing sand like dots especially apparent at white screen.
It is making me bit dizzy when I stare at the monitor for a long time.
Is this apparent for most of the guys or is mine just not in good shape?
    Thanks.

TS makes the screen grainy, but you get used to it.

Has anyone had problems with the screen randomly disconnecting and immediately reconnecting?
I only noticed it at first because it makes the sound in windows when you unplug or plug in a USB device.
It would happen so quickly that I wasn't even sure for a while that it was the touchscreen until it did it repeatedly today and finally conked out along with the bluetooth dongle on one of the spare USB ports.
I opened it up to take a peek and everything looked ok so I plugged everything back in and now it works fine.

I figured for sure that the controller pooped the bed but now it all seems ok, just wondering if anyone else had the same issues? :?

If I had the TS hub powered by the 3.3 volt web camera port, I would do this guys mod and run everything on 5 volts.

But then it won't be solderless kit would it.

my replacement controller board finally arrived from toptouchscreen and my touchscreen is now working perfectly, but i diverted from their install instructions this time and instead of running wires through both of the hinges to hook into the camera and back to the controller i just soldered the touchscreen controller input lead to the cn11 usb header (it's under the hardrive) on the motherboard, which i then routed to exit into the access panel on the underside of the one, the header is only about 60mm from the access panel so the wire is very short and very easy to route so now i have just 1 extra wire for the touchsreen itself going through the right side hinge alongside the wlan antenna wire. although this requires some soldering to be done it gives a much cleaner install, and soldering to the cn11 header is very easy with plenty of space between contacts so it's not fiddly at all, plus it gives you an extra usb port on the controller board to use for something else as the camera isn't using it anymore, a win win imho :D
