In trying to keep my LINPUS uptodate with the RPM I have the following errors

It indicates that I need to update the ACER Communication Suite, and it starts downloading the nr. 1800883 and 180084.
After downloading it proceeds with installation but gives an error message of File error.

Pls advise how to resolve this.

I have all communications apps working, including Firefox, Thunderbird, Messenger. All WIFI based. No problems.

    Thx for your advise.

    Hi freitsma,

Same here. Just ran update manager and was presented with the same two upgrades to communication suite 1800883 & 1800884. Files download OK but installation terminates with an I/O error reported, saying files are in use. Click OK and download manager closes. Maybe the update is trying to overwrite files that are in use when the system is up. I wondered if the second patch was a fix for this, but I can't get as far as trying it since the first installation terminates.

I would try unchecking the first patch but that option is greyed out. Help!.........anybody?

    Thanks in advance.

    SOLVED! for now I think.

I was looking through Macles excellent pages and discovered a means to make updates optional. Open terminal and paste and execute:

    sudo sed 's/Critical/00000AA1/;s/Optional/00000AA1/' -i.bak /usr/bin/onlineupdate

    Full details here: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/09/opti ... e-one.html.

It doesn't directly solve this issue but it does allow you to deselect the problem patch 180083 and then download and install 180084. As I noted above, I'm suspicious that two consecutive patches have been posted so close together, same download size & description. I still wonder if one is a fix for the other, without the other having been withdrawn. Anyway, no obvious probs or benefits on my machine (AOA110, 1Gb, 16Gb SSD). Patch 180083 will continue to appear in the update list. NOTE: THERE IS NOW NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHICH PATCHES ARE ESSENTIAL AND WHICH ARE OPTIONAL, unless someone knows how to reverse this 'switch'?
