Got my acer one 3 days ago the linpus version didn,t know much about linux but learning is why were on this planet thanks to this forum all was going well .Then this morning took updates ,after a reboot black screen and only search bar a quick check with the desktop search showed nearly all files gone.Hey no probs have recovery disk but no usb odd ,no probs can do from flash drive. Followed all instructions dead simple acer disk told told me congratulations you have completed a recovery usb drive actually it told me five times thats how many times i redone it as my little loved one refused to boot from it . checked usb for files nought on it , checked recovery disk for files nought on it , Just got back from major uk retailer where i bought it not intrested because i didn,t buy there highly priced warrenty . I admit im not a patient man but this really upset me and i have to conclude its a much better frisbee than net book although a expensive one ....PS no it wont ever work again

sorry to hear about what happened to your aspireOne.

Just wondering when you tried to boot from the USB, if you had changed the boot order in your bios to make it boot from the usb first.

Also, baring the event that you have wiped the recovery partition, have you tried the recovery from there?

If you have access to another computer, then get a linux livecd, boot that and create a USB recovery disk with the instructions and disk image provided here:

I have had the exact same problem. The screen turned black and I only saw the search bar and the home key. It also connected to the wifi. Mine wouldn`t boot either from the usb recovery that I created. I used a 1 gig MP3 USB. Because that didn`t work I bought a Cruzer mini of 2 gig for just 10 euro. Once i had created the usb recovery on my new usb stick the whole system was recovered in about half an hour. So I really recommend you to buy a cruzer usb stick. The u3 launch on the cruzer stays the same after you have created the recovery usb since it`s on a different partition on the usb stick.

    Regards,

Thanks for your reply redmar. Ive actually got it running again. One tough net book in a childish temper i throw it down the road like a frisbee about 20 metre the case is not so shiney but its in better condition than when i dropped my Harley and slid the same distance and cheaper to repair. I,m replying to this on my little one and i do love it, the only problem i have is compiz did not load properly and shows error all the time,so i deleted it and tried to download again but always get same result error loading dependencies. Still maybe i can live without it. But for the record aspire one is tougher than a Harley :D
