I have acquired a few problems on an Acer Aspire desktop machine so need to reinstall Windows.

I have pressed Alt+F12 when booting up but just get a black background and [/NOEXECUTE]

Hitting enter just gets me booted into Windows.

What I would like to do is restore the machine back to a fresh install.

I have additionally tried to install XP using a legitimate install CD and just get a BSOD after Windows setup loads all it's bits.

The machine came with XP and if I can get rid and roll back to XP great, however, initially I would just like to get the Acer Recovery working.

There is a 10gig partition that is hidden which I am assured is the recovery partition.

    Any ideas?

the aspire one netbooks use alt F10 when in the boot process the acer logo appears.
if your desktop does not use the same then try google.
also if you are trying to use a XP disc, you have to change the boot priority and boot from the cd first with the disc already installed.
