My Acer Aspire One has stopped working after just 17 months. My local laptop repairer says that there is nothing he can do with it. I e-mailed Acer themselves who say that if I send them £54 they will look at it. They go on to say that they will send me a quote for repair but if I decide not to have it done they will keep the £54. As the laptop only cost £200 I don't really think it's worth the risk. I can't help thinking that this system of theirs is just a way of deterring people from returning their faulty goods. I will never but from this company again.

I bought a Dell mini to replace it and am really pleased with it. My local repairer tells me that he has had 6 aspire ones in now, all broken and all just out of warranty.

Hi Doug - It's great that you've got a nice new netbook now, but I think you would have been entitled to either a free repair or replacement under UK consumer law. I think that paying £200 for a netbook (or anything electrical for that matter), you would expect it to last longer than 17 months.

I suggest that you check out Martin Lewis's website as he gives good consumer advice, if nothing else you may get a little compensation :)
