OK, so my aspire one wont stay turned on for more than about a minute-a minute and a half. I tried pluggin it in, i tried plugging it in and removing the battery. I know that it doesnt have to do with the Windows XP boot process because, if i open up the BIOS and leave it there, it still turns off in about a minute and a half. Is this a well- known hardware problem? what do i need to do to fix this?

Can you here the fan, it sounds like a hardware issue is causing it to power down, it could be the cpu overheating. you might get speed fan or something to check the cpu tempurature when it shuts down

I have exactly the same problem. Does anyone connected to Acer read this forum who might offer some help? The machine is currently useless and ready to be written off as garbage and a bad buy. Thanks.

Mine too, just delivered today from TigerDirect. Mine will only stay on about 45 seconds then click. It doesn't even get through the windows boot.

What a bummer and to see all the others with this problem. I am throwing them MFM away.

Try gentle slapping from left bottom side of your AA1 during starup. This worked for me.

And after a few months of it working fine, mine is now doing exactly the same...
Intruiging it all started around the same date :s

EDIT: I just changed the BIOS date to the 19th januari of this year and rebooted.
Sofar my One has not shut down for the past 15 minutes. Seems there is a date bug in the Bios... unless I subconciously slapped the One as mentioned above.

Can anyone else test the datechange ?

I haven't had any trouble with 3305. It sure seemed odd to me too that suddenly several people have the same problem. It wouldn't have occured to me to test the date though, very smart. :geek:

Let me show my ignorance. How do you change the BIOS date? Thanks.

    Thanks :)
It is possible that the bug only occurs in later BIOS versions - I have been updating them everytime a new one was released. That would also explain why not every One suddenly failed - most people do not ;)
However, I would like some confirmation from others if the date truly is the problem...

Second possible solution (as seen on Macles):
Remove the battery, run on AC power (it will still shut down), put battery back in.

To change the date in the BIOS, press F2 when booting. Then change the date ;)

Changing the date had no effect. It still shut down quickly. However, taking out the battery and putting it on external power seems to have done the trick. I took out the battery and plugged the machine in. It worked fine and did not shut down (as yours apparently did) on the external power. I replaced the battery and unplugged the external power and it continues to work fine. Thanks very much Grim Squeaker!
