Acer President and CEO Gianfranco Lanci indicated at the company’s global conference held in Budapest, Hungary that Acer will launch more netbooks to join its Aspire one range, as per a Friday report. The company, which bought PC maker Gateway last year, will also launch a Gateway-branded netbook, Lanci indicated. While details on either are not known, it is possible the new Aspire ones will have a screen larger than the current offering’s 8.9-inch screen.

Other interesting pieces of information revealed about Acer’s future at the conference included the announcement that a 3G module equipped Aspire one will be available this October, while a WiMAX version will come in 2009. No prices were announced for either model.

The company also unveiled its plans to launch a mobile Internet device and smart phone as early as 2009. All that’s known is the Internet tablet device would likely use Intel’s Atom platform.

    that's their first mistake.

making stuff bigger means making it less portable. making it less portable means you may as well buy a regular laptop.

There is a gap currently between "normal" laptops and netbooks, most of the laptops in the 11-13 inch range are $$$$. Filling that gap might not be a bad idea, as long as the cost stays low.

BestBuy calls an ulta light anything under 6 lbs. (That might not be exact, maybe they just call it light.)

There are several core2duo laptops around in the $500-600 range, with a weight of around 5 lbs.

They all seem to gradually be getting bigger (the ASUS 1000 for example.)

I'm with the folks who feel that they ought to keep it smaller. Right now, despite the defects, I still think it's one of the best in the $400 range.
