With the latest kernel update I encountered acerhdf not working any longer. I switched succesfully back to 2.6.31-19. Anyone else who encountered this?

You only have to change temperature values on /etc/modprobe.d/acerhdf.conf , from for ex: 65 to 65000

I have found the same problem with the new kernel. Should we change the values as suggested or wait for a new Kernel?

I also changed the values and it worked. My question is what will the next kernel update require, the new values or the old values? Time will tell.

My concern is that they switch back to the old values with the next update. And before we realize it our little toys will melt away...
I'm waiting until the next update and if it is consistent I will change.

The protection circuitry of the CPU should shut it down before any damage is done. So you should be OK.
