When you say set up an ad-hoc network "at home," do you mean you're trying to make one of your computers a server to share internet?

I don' want to make a new thread and I don't think you guys would appreciate it either so I'm asking here. I want to make an Ad Hoc network between my computer (has a usb wireless adapter), and my AAO JUST to share files between the two. Because I don't really get a good signal from my router and it almost never connects to my AAO.

However, when I go to make an ad hoc network...give it an ssid and pass and then try to connect to it on my computer...it says "Connected" using the Wireless Zero Config app on windows, but it also stays stuck on "Aquiring network address".

Same thing when I try to connect the AAO to the ad hoc network..."aquiring network address".

How do I get this to work?

Right now your network cards are probably set in DHCP mode to automatically get an IP address from the router. In an ad-hoc network, since there is no DHCP server, you'll need to specify the IP addresses of your machines manually.

For instance, put one machine at 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 and the other at 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0. No gateway needed.

Just tried that, for some reason it didn't work with WPA+TKIP encryption, but when I tried with WEP it did work and won the wireless zero config it appeared as connected on both. But I could not see shared folders over the network and didn't receive a ping reply when I pinged to the other computer.

Also, should I be checking that "a key is provided for me automatically". I've been using my own password...
