I have purchased an Acer Aspire D257 in Canada. The adapter has a removable 2 pin plug US JP TW.
Can this be replaced with a plug suitable for use in the UK? If so what is the exact name of the part and where can I purchase one?

Look on the adapter to ID the manufacturer. Then see if they have a web site and if the part you want is available for purchase. Failing that, you can go to eBay and buy a $2 adapter for US to UK conversion or buy a whole new adapter that has multi prongs for various countries. As you say, the adapter prong slides off. I found one for about $10 with prongs for the US, UK, Europe, Australia & Asia. I travel a lot from the US to the UK & Europe. I keep the new adapter for my netbook in my travel bag.
